I read this and thought someone had stolen the band's awesome vintage ride and held it for ransom, hopefully sometime in the recent past or future.

For the lack of an apostrophe the epic assumption was lost.

This is so bizarre I assumed it was another Negativland Helter Stupid-style prank.

Is it wrong that after I found out they were safe that I thought to myself, "This will probably inspire some creative music. I can't wait to hear it."?

It probably is. I'm glad they're safe.

It's sort of a fascinating Spanish Prisoner riff on kidnapping, only the victims are enlisted as unwitting allies in the con.

In fact, I think I'm going to watch Spanish Prisoner again -- even though the long con there bears little resemblance to the classic con by that name, the essential component is a mind-fuck.
