Monster. "A short fable about a village that must hold a lottery to decide who will feed a monster waiting in the forest."

I enjoy short form film and video, especially dark fantasy and horror, so I appreciate your posting this, homunculus. Personally it didn't do much for me; there wasn't a lot of suspense building up to the reveal, which was (again, just for me) a bit of a disappointment.

Still, different strokes for different folks, and I would give another piece by the same crew a try as it wasn't terrible, and I know how hard it is to do this kind of work well.

It's a Vancouver-based production team... I wonder where they shot this? Someplace up Howe Sound, I guess?

Makes me think of Shirley Jackson's The Lottery and I wonder how far back that same story line goes around the word.

It was well made (though I saw where it was going pretty quick).

For a slightly different take on kids and monsters, you might check out Kelly Link's short story "Monster" in her anthology Pretty Monsters.

Your link also led me to Record/Play , another good SF short on vimeo via short of the week.
