In case you didn't know, Allie "Hyperbole and a Half" Brosh has a book coming out. And Salon have evilly published a sneak preview excerpt of it. They also have an interview with Brosh, in which she talks about writing, stand-up comedy and made-up words. Like psssssp. Go read the interview.

I've been sick for the past couple of days and was SO HAPPY to see my preorder automatically show up on my Kindle when it was released.

I got the book this morning and managed to hold off reading it until after work. I'm done now.

I'm pretty sure Allie Brosh is secretly reading my thoughts.

I have to wait days. Curse the whole living in Australia thing! At least I know it is on the way.

Yesss, I just got my copy this morning. The book itself is beautiful. Full color and a nice layout and all.

My copy of the book was delivered today, but my mail goes to my landlord, so it's still being held hostage in his house for now. Sadface. Maybe tomorrow?

I had a very crappy day but when I got home Allie's book was waiting for me.

I planned on portioning it out by chapters and making it last, but I fear I may go all God of Cake on it and read until I vomit happiness and quirky drawings.

CAAAAAAAKKKE!!!

My wife is recovering from surgery, and the book arrived today. She put it down after a few pages, because it hurts too much to laugh.

Around the time of the Depression Part 2 post, my mother found Hyperbole and a Half and sent me an incredulous email that was like "Have you been secretly writing a blog all this time? This sounds exactly like something you'd write." Although I was a little alarmed that my mom would say this after reading a post on being suicidally depressed, I still considered a compliment of the highest order, because I have all sorts of cartoon hearts for Allie Brosh. Nothing I accomplish will ever be as good as my mom thinking I was Allie Brosh for approximately two seconds.

Anyway, the reason I haven't bought the book yet is because I am convinced my mom will buy it for me for Christmas. I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of my brothers did, too. Maybe I should email everyone and tell them that, instead of presents, let's just each buy a copy of Hyperbole and a Half and read it together under the tree. Or, shit, let's cancel Christmas altogether and just get ourselves the book now.

My copy should be arriving tomorrow. Once I finish reading it I'll start deciding which friends and family members I need to give copies to.

My copy arrived this morning at work and I had to put it down immediately, because I hooted with laughter on the very first page.

Don't miss her book tour either.

I was surprised that the iconic "Internet Forever" image was changed out for the book.

I won't get mine until Thursday. Fortunately I had the foresight to take Friday and Saturday off from work, because I'm planning on reading that thing 40 or 50 times in a row.

Anyone else going to see her in SF on Nov. 5?

Did I mention that I might have an extra ticket????

Got mine. It is awesome. Allie is awesome. That is all.

I got the notification from Amazon that my pre-order was due to arrive today and then the notification that it had arrived. Sadly, I'm out of town at a conference until tomorrow. I am seriously thinking about ditching the afternoon sessions and driving home.

I tried to get tickets for her SF appearance but it was sold out.

In the words of Simple Dog: eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

The book is good! I just wish it was bigger! (Both longer and taller to better enjoy the images)

I am so in love with Allie, who I have never met and likely never will. Also, don't tell my wife. It's a secret between just you and me, okay?

Preorder came during a somewhat stressful family time - so good to see my Powell's box show up on my doorstep unannounced! :) Spent some good time decompressing reading it last night - just wish the book was longer!

I didn't pre-order because...I don't know, I'm an idiot? So, I'm stopping at a bookstore on my way home.

LOVE Allie Brosh.

Her modified pain scale features prominently in my office.

I changed my facebook status to "Geese have no business owning DVD players. It was entirely unacceptable."

I plan to unfriend anyone who doesn't indicate that they get the joke by Friday night at the latest.

Wait, copyright "Touchstone?" Please someone tell me that's an alias for her, or a company she owns. Please tell me she retains the rights to the thing. The Copyright Monster must be appeased!

I believe it's an imprint of Simon & Schuster. I'm not sure what you mean by "retains the rights to the thing." She still has her blog. She got a publisher for her book. That, in and of itself, doesn't mean they own the comic.

Just spent my lunch break reading more of this thing. I think my favorite part so far (of the parts that I hadn't already seen from reading her site) is her analysis of how a person can become upset with reality for not conforming with their arbitrary rules, illustrated with the following step-by-step example:

"Rule: push button, thing happens.

Pushed button.

Thing did not happen.

angry at the button"

Now Ebert is dead, I suspect Allie Brosh is the single person the Internet unconditionally loves.

We are her Simple Dog.

You definitely can find people who are down on Brosh, just like you can find those who are down on Ebert, Jim Henson and Fred Rogers. On Metafilter, however, the acclaim has been pretty much universal. (This is not a complaint. Rather, a ringing endorsement.)

I want to make a pamphlet of the Motivation chapter and have it available at all times to illustrate to family members or friends what's going on in my head when they ask why I haven't done a Thing.

I am a lazy, floor-banana motherfucker.

Searches for 'I hate Allie Brosh', 'Allie Brosh sucks' and 'Allie Brosh is terrible' turn up zero relevant hits. In principle you're probably right, but I've never ever seen it.

I seem to remember a couple of Redditors saying it. Easily-discounted Redditors. I could be mistaken, I don't visit Reddit too often, but it's generally a safe bet you can find someone who hates anything somewhere on the Internet.

Finally got mine yesterday, which was good, because it has been unusually crappy this week, and the past few weeks beforehand have been pretty fucking awful too. So laughing my head off for fully 3 minutes at: "Subject attempting to punish garbage truck. The garbage truck does not appear to be affected." was a really nice change.
