Kitten meets hedgehog. That is all. [slyt]

Most of my problems can probably be solved by this kitten's method:

1. Be surprised by the thing.
2. Look at it. Carefully.
3. Sniff it.
4. Try to whack it with my paw but miss.
5. Nap.

Suns out, blinds are open, beautiful day, and there are cat videos about. This is the life.

Are you sure that was a hedgehog? It must have been a turtle (otherwise why would they keep it in a tank full of water?)

It's a what now?

We in fact looked at a new apartment this morning and asked the landlord if it would be okay if we got a hedgehog. This woman (who is very nice but a Grade-A Loon) had never heard of hedgehogs before and seemed to latch onto the word "hog" and thought we wanted a pig. My husband, foolishly trying to use logic on this woman (she's also the real estate agent who is selling the house for our current landlord so we've had a fair amount of experience with her), explained that it was a small pet like a gerbil. At this point she began assuming we wanted a gerbil. No, we don't want a stupid boring gerbil. We want a grumpy, cuddly, awesome hedgehog.

Perhaps I should show her this video.

I am not sure "You've Got a Friend in Me" is the right song for this video. It's more like "You've Got a Snack in You, but I Am Not Sure Where, and You Are in a Water Container, and This Is Really Difficult, and Screw It, Napping is Awesome."

I admit that would be a cumbersome lyric.

All cats have pretty much the same reaction to meeting a hedgehog—sniff, sniff, paw, jump away, repeat. For most the repeat step goes on forever. My cat, however, eventually forget the hedgehog was there at all and ended up accidentally sitting on the her. This seems to have taught her, once and for all, not to mess with the hedgehog.

Good Lord, how much time do people have on their hands. Nothing sucks the life out of a homemade video of two animals playing together than opening and end credits. What's next? "I'd like to thank the cast and crew for doing such a wonderful job on the film, my agent at William Morris for believing in me.."

Also, kitty clearly has a "I'm going to fucking murder you and spray your innards all over the wall" look on his face. I think it's time to fire the music supervisor.

I think it's time to fire the music supervisor.

You have to turn the volume off on the first video, but I prefer this version.

Nah. She will probably decide you want to plant a hedge.

That song made for a pretty quick poke at the mute button. Kitty and Hedgy were cute, though.

The video is like an ice cream sundae.

The soundtrack is like a bucket of sugar poured on top.

So, phaedon, how are things at home? Anything you'd care to share?

Song: Yooouve got a friend in mee!
Kitten: Can I eat this?
Hedgehog: Shields up!

Either that's a teeny tiny kitten, or that hedge-pig is pretty good size.

Too much Halloween candy, maybe?

I was pretty impressed with the hedgehog's strategy:

1. Mind my own business
2. Mind my own business in a bathtub, then on a blanket
3. Abide annoying kitten and cameraperson for as long as possible
4. Launch debilitating attack off-camera, leaving kitten paralyzed
5. Mind my own business

This is pretty much how a kitten meets anything. My interactions with a kitten this month have been largely like:

Kitten tiptoes up...
Quietly...
Sees me notice him, freezes!
Tiptoes up again...
Looks at my hand from 1 cm away...
"Argh, the hand tried to pet me!!??" Jumps back!!
Tiptoes up... verrry cautiously...
"Oh, nice petting," rolls on side and purrs...
Notices: "OH MY GOD IS THAT A HAND!???"
Jumps back and sprints away...
...
...Peeks little face around the corner...

Excuse me your second link does not go to a kitten. I was promised two kitten pics, moar please.

Oh never mind it's just one kitten pic and the other link goes to your comment. Kyoot kitten.

If you insist: Moar kitten.

P.S. San Francisco friends, kitten may be up for adoption (if someone doesn't take him tomorrow). Let me know if you're interested!

it might be because i am uncomfortably close to turning 40, but i do not understand this new equation where an intentionally out of tune ukulele + young woman singing with a heavy dose of vocal fry = TOTES ADORBS.

Can somebody who remembers the site where you can mix together two YouTube clips take this one there and change the soundtrack to Yakety Sax? Thank you in advance.

I'm far, far away from San Francisco, and can't have a pet right now either, both of which are a shame because slidell's kitten deserves a loving home.

The Related Video, 8 signs your cat is actually a dog yt , is also adorable.

I had a cat, an Abyssinian, who lived for playing fetch. She and I would spend tons of time in the kitchen with a bouncy foam soccer ball. I miss her to this day.

I am also unconvinced about cat intelligence versus dog intelligence. I think the feline aloofness lends an air of haughty superiority that can be mistaken for extra smarts, while dogs are goofy and dorky and able to do way more things. ;) No matter what, though, I love them both.

Really, what would be the point of owning a hedgehog? Just take a slug from the garden and put a toupee on it.

And now after I've read the comments, I want to say I totally understand why one would adopt a hedgehog and I was previously ignorant. I will show myself out.

First off, my cat is a dork. A loving, loveable dork. And that's why I keep him. Birds of a feather, wot wot? (Although it would be awesome if he had the attention span to play catch.)

Seconding, OP, thanks for making it easy to win a game of Facebook oneupsmanship with my awesome lady cousin.

Curls up, but can't swim--
Stickly-Prickly, that's him!

Of course the cat didn't have a large enough body of water to use the trick on.
