Football as soccer …or should that be American Football as football?

Some of these are really fantastic. The Panthers' one, for example, should replace their current cartoon immediately. You know they wouldn't get any interference from league officials if they did so.

I'm looking forward to the alternate styles for each team.

Aww great the Skins are even awful as a Soccer team.

Even tho I actually like the Flying Elvis logo, the Pats logo here is also a pretty big improvement. The shield is evocative of Federal Period design, the colors and pattern are very modern and dynamic, and even the notch at the top is a wink at the tricorn cap of the current and previous logos. Good job all around.

These logos are too boring, don't score enough, and fall down every time they get touched. - said Joe Six Pack American Football guy.

They actually used a piece of the St. Louis flag on the Rams badge. Really well done.

Yeah, I was thinking "not enough tricorn," then I decided, "no that's just enough tricorn."

These logos are all way classier than real football logos.

I just noticed that you can view them grouped by national style:

German
Italian
English
Spanish

Once again, silly football logo redesign person is totally ignorant of the Chargers shield emblem. Either that, or they knew about it, knew they couldn't top it, and that's why they didn't do much more than a brain fart as a replacement.

The New Orleans logo looks a little too much like it says "ND" instead of "NO". Otherwise these are mostly pretty good, but man that Chargers one is lame.

I like the subtle Vikings logo.

Also, the Bills logo is goddamn glorious.

Also, the Jacksonville and Tampa Bay logos here are more attractive than anything either team has put on the field this year.

I like the Baltimore, Buffalo, Atlanta, and Arizona badges a lot. In some of the others, like Seattle or Cincinatti, the current scheme is so distinctive that the badge seems tepid in comparison. The Minnesota one gets points for cleverness. New Orleans' "O" looks like a "D" and thus had me wondering if there was an NFL franchise in Fargo. I like the San Diego one even though it's plain, because it really catches the European football badge spirit.

I like how the Houston one includes a Puerto Rican flag. ¡Viva Boricua!

Damn you. Fred Perry's Lighthouse made me laugh out loud at work, and I had to explain that I was laughing at a funny soccer logo, and now I seem weirder than usual. :(

The Chargers' one is a pretty literal interpretation of the Borussia Dortmund logo from the Bundesliga.

Some of these fail badly. Aside from Detroit, the Jets logo looks like a Heineken bottle mixed with a fighter plane, and both are in bad taste. Baltimore screws up the state flag (it's got two patterns and should incorporate both), while Pittsburgh screws up the city flag (one castle with three towers, not a single tower). Green Bay is awful in every conceivable way, and the 49ers is a horrible mess. The Giants is the worst eyesore, and New England...why would you have blue stripes?

Baltimore screws up the state flag

But it doesn't screw up the city flag.

Hm. Since it looks like they're planning to do a different league style for every team, they at least have the Spanish Liga taken care of already.

The Ravens use the state flag in their alternate logo. If they wanted to use the city flag, then it should have the monument.

I like them as long as it doesn't lead to a spate of football players kissing the logo when they score.

Yes, they should continue instead with their regular practice of congratulatory butt-slapping.

You've got to be kidding. These are redesigns, and it's a Baltimore team. It's okay to be wrong. Insisting that the Battle Monument be included because it's on the flag is a peculiar requirement.

The Ravens use the state flag on the alternate logo because it's the best state flag in the country, but it's a city team, so using the city flag makes sense. Characterizing this decision as a screw-up is incorrect.

Though I do agree with you about the New England blue stripes. That seemed odd to say the least. Maybe there's a reason.

Tricorn hats. Hm.

I see that there is also such a thing as a bicorn hat.

Of course that leads immediately to another question. And the answer is yes. And that, in turn, leads immediately to the question of which team will be the first to adopt this.

OK, but I will say that the state flag would have made a better logo.

I like how the Pittsburgh one incorporates the city's coat of arms. The artist obviously did at least a little research. I'd buy a ball cap with that logo on it.

I know it's possible to see the other divisions by looking at the other posts, but I prefer to think that, as a Red Sox fan, you actually think that the AL East is "all the baseball teams."

I only looked at two divisions, but the soccer-baseball jerseys are pretty good, and the reasons for the design decisions are well-researched and documented with citations in the descriptions.

don't score enough

Soccer goals don't count for six points. None of that silly inflationary points piffle. You'll earn your score.

Is anyone else sick of the trend towards clean, thick lines and solid colors? Is there even a design-y name for this kind of thing? Maybe it's just a consequence of mocking things up in vector graphics, but it seems intentional (see Brooklyn Nets logo). Probably we have Apple to blame.

I suspect it's going to seem dated and hilarious in 30 years.

However: these logos are all great, as are the baseball ones. I would want to see Euro football teams adapted to the (terrible) NFL style, but it basically calls for a mascot team name so I doubt it would work.

The Bears one is great in so man ways. About the only way it *might* be improved is to steal a card from Liverpool and rather than having "Bears FC 1920" as the motto, have "Bear Down" instead.

But otherwise? That logo is brilliant in all ways.

Christ, that packers is fugly.

Which is exactly correct as well.

Yeah, but even the Fulham logo has some visual interest and individuality in the outlined, interlocked letters. The Packers one here (worst of the lot, by a long shot) is just "Insert Text... Rotate 15°"

Wow, she was savaged pretty unfairly in that thread - lots of folks tone-deaf to the concept and, to be frank, unconvincing in their critiques. Those are better than 99% of the logos used by local businesses hereabouts. (Except the guy who does the hand-carved wood and gold-leaf signs, as that dude is a genius. He did one of a lovingly carved and gilt dead cockroach for an extermination company.)
