They get progressively less human the further they are from the Sun

"I’ve always loved space and the planets. I’ve seen a few 'human planets' sets done by other artists and most of them are pretty literal in the human department. I wanted to try making something more androgynous and godlike."

The figures, in order, are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. (Dwarf planet included at the discretion of the artist.)

(When I reblogged this onto my own Tumblr earlier today, my commentary was: "I love love love that Mars is a craggy grumpy little standoffish bruiser. Mars likes to destroy things that try to land on them, but I DUN CARE, MARS, you are still my lovable monster bb." I have Mars feelings, okay?)

I'm imagining a fung fu fight scene with all of these folks vs. Galactus.

Not sure why they are all bipedal. I like to think of them as human stock that has been genetically modified to survive on their adopted home planets. By this time, I'm going to assume that it only makes sense for most humans on Earth to be aquatic as the land surface becomes overpopulated.

Somehow, Mars reminds me a little of the Shrike. Not sure if that's intentional.

Come on now, we all know the personifications of the planets are anime schoolgirl superheroes.

Surely the figure with the Great Red Spot on its chest is Jupiter, not Saturn?

Yes, they're in the traditional solar system order.

The artist showed considerable restraint in his depiction of Uranus.

ACK I can't believe I mistyped the order of the planets. That's...pretty damn humiliating, actually, let's see if the mods take pity on me....

They are great people but going out to fancy places with them is murder. I mean, where the fuck am I supposed to find a jacket for a dude who doesn't even have arms or a back to begin with.

It's all for the best that I'm not a mod, Narrative Priorities, because if I were I'd switch the positions of Jupiter and Saturn, sure, but I'd also replace Neptune with Shlomo.

Hey, it's all right! You had Narrative Priorities and the story of the FPP came first as it should.

Mod note: I have moved heaven and earth Jupiter and Saturn to restore things to rights. Carry on.

If you have Pluto then you have to include Ceres, it's the law.

It'd be interesting to have their moons included as well. Children and/or litters of pets...

I still just want to give Pluto a hug.

I get a Wayne Barlow vibe off some of these these but I don't know if a young artist would have encountered his alien depictions so it might be coincidental.

Saturn needs a hula hoop.

The pattern along the chest and neck allude to the rings, though the arc is inside out.

Similarly, the curly bits along the edge of Jupiter's robes seem to be a reference to the turbulence apparent in its atmosphere.

Jupiter really should have some sort of nod to the Galilean moons, though I'm not seeing it..?
