Why, yes, please Mr. Brown, by all means, take it to the bridge.

Here's forty four minutes and forty four seconds of James Brown: said to be the total of all his appearances on Soul Train.

damn, you know, every know and then, after not listening to James Brown for a long time, something like this pops up, and I just don't even. So good. I always hope to get a glimpse of him calling out his band members for a fine because they goofed up. There are some good examples of him calling to Fred Wesley for a solo in the second set of this video . . .

Oh man, this is just what a cold and snowy January day needed. Do you have something against the first couple of songs, though? Your link jumps 7 minutes in, and they're fantastic.

Whaaa? No, it's supposed to start from the top. There's been some weird time-stamp glitch happening when I post to MeFi. I'll ask a mod to fix it. Thanks for the heads up!

"On 'Get Up I Feel Like Being a Sex Machine' he creates a dance track even more compelling than the single out of the same five elements: light funk-four on the traps, syncopated bass figure, guitar scratched six beats to the bar, and two voices for call and response. When he modulates to the bridge it's like the Spirit of God moving upon the face of the waters." Robert Christgau, 1970

speaking of Soul Train (arguably the greatest music TV show ever), I had Jeff Lynne's 2012 "improvement" of classic ELO tracks pegged as one of the most unnecessary albums of the millennium so far ... until I saw this video ...

Holy shit where in the fuck was I while this was going on oh right I was eight

If I live to two hundred I'll never see all the amazing stuff that happened in my own mere lifetime

which makes the moments I do somehow catch all the sweeter

So thank you

The Japanese subtitles are amazing.

I am told the Japanese translation of Public Enemy's "Bass, how low can you go?" is "Bass, is it possible that you may decrease?"

Thank you so much, flapjaxatmidnite. If there's a better way to ring in the new year....but there isn't.

The great thing about JB's music is that it gets better and better all the time, with each new listen.

Amazing, thank you. I've been IN a funk for the past week or so, but I think this funk is getting me OUT.

That would be one Danny Ray, who is still doing his thing.
