There's a perverse part of me that really hopes Logan doesn't end up with Veronica because you just know the fans will go ballistic. The intensity of LoVe fans combined with the funding aspect... it'll make Harmonians look reasonable

The other part of me also hopes that Logan doesn't end up with Veronica because I never liked Logan or LoVe. And why does every protagonist need to always have a love interest anyway? Maybe she's cookie dough and she's not done baking?

I hope the movie is a good deal funnier and has a great deal more of her father than that trailer has. The father/daughter relationship was the only pairing I really loved on that show.

Which ones have the Warbirds and which ones have the Birds of Prey again? Neu Trek is so confusing.

I had to look up the Harmonians thing. It's people who ship Harry/Hermoine.

Oh! I just assumed it was people who were really passionate about Dan Harmon and Community. Thanks!

You're thinking of Zutarians.

I was going to post this, but as a producer I thought it would be a self-link. :-)

Yeah, I liked the show--which I burned through on DVD way back when--but I don't think Logan has ever come across to me as anything other than creepy/smarmy.

I don't want Logan or Piz. And after seeing the trailer, I'm firmly convinced that Deputy Leo is the man for her. Just got up to his first episode in my re-watch and he is adorable, especially as he tackles the bad guy to save Keith.

I appreciate this is a jump from tv to film but the trailer has a very washed out look that didn't seem a good fit.

I thought there was a great dramatic pause when she gets the call from Logan and says 'I don't..." but it turned out that the streaming had stalled.

If anyone is a big VM fan and in London next weekend there is a season 1 marathon at the Prince Charles cinema on Saturday night.

March 2014? That's a really fast production schedule.

Logan is almost definitely wrong for grown-up Veronica, but I will never stop loving him ever. I also love Piz. But most of all I love Weevil.

Sorry, what? Were we having an adult conversation?

If you love Piz we're not really having any kind of conversation.

Piz was just so boring as a character.

I'm cool with LeoVe, though. I really enjoyed Logan as a character, and I liked their relationship, but it never struck me as something that could last. (Whatever Logan might say about their love being epic when he's drunk.)

I have no idea if this movie is going to be any good, but I am so looking forward to it.

Logan's inspirational messages of the day justify Logan winding up with anyone he wants.

Is it weird that I kinda want the movie to end with Mars getting disbarred and becoming a private eye? Like, it would be great if the villain(s) think they can get to Mars by ruining her legal career, by exposing her frequently shady means of investigation. She even misdirects them into thinking that that's a solid way to get to her. But, it turns out that she would be much happier being the hardest-ass PI that ever was. The ending then shows how she uses her own public disbarment as an advertisement for her services. Not only do the villains not know how to get Veronica Mars, because they don't know what she is or wants, but they only make her stronger.

Logan was fun as a character, whether dating Veronica or not, as long as he had his snark on. He got all emo in the last season.

And yes, I did pause distinctly for a moment to consider whether I wanted this comment to be forever a part of my internet presence. Yet here it is. Bring on the Mars clan!!

Oh God, this just reminded me that I told my daughter that Veronica & Weevil became a couple in season 3. She watched it, waiting for this to happen & then yelled at me for giving her fake spoilers.

sorry, Ro

I have never seen even 30 seconds of this show and have no real urge to, yet I have a weird fascination with reading posts about it. It's like TV's Dwarf Fortress, only with sexy (now former) high schoolers.

I like the idea of Veronica realizing she is delicious cookie dough.

I've been avoiding a lot of the movie stuff because as much as I loved the series, all two and a half seasons of it *cough*, I was finding a movie hard to imagine. But this trailer... man, there's some promising stuff in there. And MAC IS BACK!

I don't understand why it isn't Harmionean--I wouldn't even have needed to google it.

I realize they have to pair Veronica and Logan because that's like required and stuff, but seeing Max Greenfield for a few moments in the trailer I really want to see a Veronica / Schmidt crossover.
posted by Rhomboid at 7:24 AM on January 6, 2014 [4 favorites]

The most surprising thing about this trailer, to me, was the reminder of what a good actor Max Greenfield is. Because same guy is so gross as Schmidt on New Girl but give me five seconds of Leo basically just delivering exposition, and I swoon.

I saw this trailer a couple of days ago and my reaction was that it was kind of flat and meh. But I also realised that I don't care if I ultimately like this film; I just really, really want it to exist.

After I shared this far and wide last week, I realized something weird: if you haven't seen the show, this looks like a pretty middle-of-the-road mystery movie. I really hope the associated hype helps push it above that for non-fans!

I had this exact same conversation last night. I loved Deputy Leo. I hate Schmidt. I die a little inside every time someone I know rewatches Veronica Mars (or watches it now for the first time) and says, "Oh, yay, it's Schmidt!" But when I saw him in the trailer, he was Deputy Leo through and through, and it was the most wonderful surprise.

My entire household believes in our hearts that Party Down exists in the same universe as Veronica Mars. I'm always a little surprised when something reminds me it doesn't really.

Can I link to the whole Kristen Bell sloth thing again? Didn't think I could love Veronica more until I saw that clip...

I always sort of think that it's Deputy Leo that makes me like Schmidt at all, or at least it was in the beginning.

Sigh, Deputy Leo.

Here's the thing about Logan vs. Piz: in general, Veronica is a billion times smarter than the dudes she dates. Heck, they called Duncan "The Donut," and nobody thought he was particularly brilliant until he kidnapped his baby, fled the country, and had Aaron killed. (Impressive, Donut.) All things considered, people are in love with LoVe because Logan was the only dude who could keep up with Veronica in the Marsverse.

Piz? I don't care if he's a nice guy.* I normally don't go for jerks and like the nice dudes. I actually liked Deputy Leo as an interest. But compared to Veronica, Piz isn't even close to being her equal in brains. I made up a damn TV Trope about it (well, inspired by Piz/Veronica and Mary/Rafe on In Plain Sight)** because I just don't get what a smart, tough girl can see in someone who is forever making the puppy dog eyes and whimpering and always seems like the doofus. He may be a wonderful love interest for a lot of people, but I can't help but think that if Veronica married the dude, she'd eventually get sick of the whole thing and always be rolling her eyes behind her back at his doofusness.

It's a tough decision: on the one hand, Logan is kinda evil and crooked-ish, but the banter between them can be delicious. On the other hand, Piz is who I'm supposed to want her to be with, but he just brings out my inner urge to yell, "Snap out of it and stop being a doofus!" Really, she needs a reasonable third option. Might I suggest a crossover between her and Nolan on Revenge? Dude is smart as hell, loves to get into crooked shit, but isn't evil at heart. Sure, he's hotter with dudes and lives on the wrong coast, but other than that... heck, he's even rich and blonde most of the time! But not a bohunk, so....darn it.

Anyhoo: I am undecided as to whether or not I want her to get back together with Logan, but by god, I want her to break up with Piz.

* Don't even get me started on how "Stosh (Piz) Piznarski" is one of the worst freaking names I have ever heard, and I work at a school so I see horrible names pretty frequently.
** And you're welcome for not making y'all read TV Tropes for the rest of the night.

Veronica masterminded the former, and the latter only took a phone call to Clarence Weedman - hardly rocket science.

So I just finished re-listening to the show (I had it on in the background while I did crafts), and I really upped my hate for Piz. I forgot that he kisses Veronica as she is telling him she isn't into him, and that he throws a sulk when she gets into FBI internship because she will be away from him and isn't proving that she will miss him enough.

Veronica can end up with Logan or Leo or Wallace or no one at all, I don't really care, I just want her to break up with Piz. I cannot imagine how she managed to stay with him the 10 years since the show ended, unless she was too busy to break up and he's really good in bed.

Well, there's a reason they call him "Piz."

It doesn't seem to be reported anywhere yet, but Thomas confirmed yesterday in an e-mail to Kickstarter backers that rumors of a web-series meta-spinoff are true. Ryan Hanson will star in a series of shorts where he plays "a version of himself" trying to make a Dick Casablancas show happen, with help from his former co-stars on Veronica Mars and Party Down. As anybody who saw that music video from a few months ago can tell you, this is good news indeed.

The goal is for Rob Thomas (no, the other one) to be played by Rob Thomas (yes, that one).
