The Berns story is on the cover of this month's Brown Alumni Magazine. My copy arrived yesterday and I stayed up late reading it, then learned of Sam's death this morning.

What a charming guy. It definitely sucks that he got so little time in comparison to others, but he did a lot with what he had, so hats off to him.

His parents were a few years ahead of me at Brown, so I did not know them personally. Nevertheless I have been aware of their situation, and it is tragic. It is amazing what they have managed to do (research-wise), but I am sorry for the necessity.

My thoughts and prayers are with them.

That Brown alumni magazine article is worth reading; it's amazing how much his family pushed forward research on progeria during his lifetime.

. Sam expanded the knowledge and compassion of millions; every time that happens we should be immensely grateful.

My goodness he was just on the Bruins pre-game show like two weeks ago? He was completely charming and it made me want to check out the documentary. What a sweet soul. I wish him well on his journey. My thoughts are with his friends and family.

I will remember him the next time I'm feeling sorry for myself or bitching about some totally unimportant thing.
