Don't be fooled. Owls have lots of sharp bits and there will be blood if you try to cuddle them.

I can say, without hyperbole, that that is the greatest thing ever.

Its a shame they make such dreadful pets, but they're much cooler as wild creatures anyways.

Also, squee, this is the cutest.

I like the parts where he sorta spreads his wings out, like "if you gotta blow dry me, you gotta, but I'm gonna pretend like I'm flying while you do."

I was preparing to be amazed at how anybody could manage to give an owl a bath without getting ripped to shreds. Turns out you just let him bathe himself.

Also, owl doing the twist in a bowl of water is super adorbs.

I loved that it didn't have any background music because it allowed me to provide my own. Splish Splash segued into the "Shake it/shake, shake it" bit from Hey Ya, and then I Feel Pretty accompanied the blowdrying.

Add owl to warm water. Agitate. Remove and dry on "fluff" setting. Owl may expand during drying process; it will return to its original size with some encouragement. Style as desired.

I think you mean "style at your own risk, as owls have a number of extremely sharp points."

Try as I might, I cannot make my brain understand that something that floofy is not meant for snorgling. Also that's an impressive amount of wing for such a tiny(!) owl.

squee!

Now I have to wonder if bird-watchers have at any time catched one of these fellows bathing in the wild. If this one manages to do such a ruckus in a small bowl, I suspect given a whole creek or pond we might witness a whole acquatic ballet.

I took an ornithology class in college because BIRDIES and the professor had been teaching so long that when she'd lead us on our little birdwatching hikes she'd always know juuuussst the right hollow tree to knock against so that, when we looked up, there was a teeny wee grumpus looking out from its hole to see who was carrying on downstairs. I have wanted a screech owl ever since. Too bad about the deathclaws and pellets and such...

It just got fluffier, and fluffier, and fluffier.

And yet the eyes. The eyes said "You? You still just might be dinner. I'm not sure yet. But I think you might just be dinner."

Generally I'm suspicious of birds, but I like the cut of this owl's jib. I would not be able to handle being made to disco in a bowl of water, being shot at with a wind gun amidst small models of me arranged on the couch while on what is by all appearances a truly heroic dose of lsd.

No experience with owls, but my mom and her sisters raise pigeons. You've never seen a bunch of happier birds than when you set out some pans of water. Even if it's only 45F out, the whole loft empties to splash around.

Thank you so much for posting this, I saw a gif of the spinning segment a few days ago on reddit, but of course no source was provided.

It's an old link, and one we've seem before, but seeing the owl happily splashing around reminded me of the video of the neglected ducks being introduced to water for the first time, which once they get used to it is pure avian joy.

Aaaaaaa he's almost too cute to be real! Looks like something out of a Miyazaki film- he wouldn't be out of place in Totoro.

That was a great use of my five minutes. I loved when his eyes got EVEN BIGGER when the hair dryer started up.

There's an eastern screech owl that hangs out in our back yard sometimes. I haven't tried bathing him. Yet.
