The opening move the guy in red does when he appears at 40 seconds into the first video.

I am so glad this never became an official Olympic sport.

Oh I find it very entertaining. But I can't imagine actually getting my skis to do any of that. or not breaking my leg in the most awful way imaginable. Especially in 1980s bindings. . . .

This would be a much better sport if it were done for speed. In moguls. While being bombarded by trebuchets.

This is both impressive and hilarious at the same time. Kinda like the dancing hippos in Fantasia.

I had no idea you could spin on a ski. Now, I see that one can indeed spin on a ski.

The universe has weirdly aligned.... coworkers and I had a discussion about ski ballet yesterday which sent us down the you tube rabbit hole.

If you were around in the '70s, you may remember being exposed to ski ballet by former alpine skiing Olympian Suzy Chaffee, aka Suzy Chapstick. Ski ballet clip.

I did mogul racing when I was in high school, and one week of every season they would make us do this crap. People would stop on the side of the hill and laugh at us impaling ourselves on our ski poles. Proper ballet skiers used special reinforced poles, but we didn't have those so we'd invariably snap a pair or two.

They changed the name of the sport to AcroSki a few years later to attract more people but it didn't pan out.

Wow. When I try to do a kick turn just from standing, 70% of the time I end up with one ski stuck vertically in the snow, my leg 90 degrees out from my body and then keel over gently sideways.

I can't imagine doing them like that while moving!
