WHY IS THIS NOT A SPORT
posted by xedrik at 7:50 PM on February 14, 2014 [2 favorites]

I love curling. Watching it, playing it, it's just plain fun.

This would also be just plain fun.

I love how they didn't use just still photos of the cats in the video. Esp the moment where the sliding cat puts a paw out at the broom. :D

I am so glad that this is all of the olympics I have seen this year. Thank you.

I've been watching every hour of curling broadcast, and nothing else. It's the best ONLY way to do the winter games, if you ask me.

I had no idea Kristen Bell was on the 2006 US Curling team.

Now I want to do this! Quick, get me a cat!

That was fucking brilliant.

Let's wake up a cat and try this in the hallway!

It would probably work better with a sleeping cat. For some value of better.

Next up. Cat hurling!

This sport makes sense to me now.

I'd heard that curlers get a lot of pussy, but this is ridiculous!

I have:
  • A new house
  • With a long hallway done up in laminate floors
  • Two cats
  • A dust mop
  • No real interest in Valentine's Day activities
Cat #1 is a little too pudgy and only slid a few feet down the hallway.

Cat #2 is skittish to begin with and is now hiding under the bed.

I now plan to grease the hallway with bacon fat and catnip, and I will report back by morning. I'm pretty sure that with some work, I can slide one of them from the living room to the bedroom with just one little shove.

I'm actually about 15 minutes away from my curling game tonight. The team will love this.

My cat Tipper would be so good at this. We already play earthquake and sliders (polished board floors). She started training 8 years ago. Where do we register?

It makes no sense to use cats for this.
She put an in-turn on the cat, yet the cat actually performed an out-turn.
Now a dog would have done the in-turn.

i was hoping it would be cats curling!

obviously

humans can be dumb

you have us and u don't notice that we're curling all.the.time. when we're not sleeping hellooooooo

totally unrealistic this way, i mean look at those drapey pants waiting to be snagged and those brooms. the brooms!!! no way we cats would do a mere weak swat at one

I could watch this all day long (unlike actual curling)

I have no cat, there's no curling on at 5AM today, and the dogs aren't having it.

Withdrawal.

I now plan to grease the hallway with bacon fat and catnip.

A note on doing this. Bacon fat melts above 85°F, crank your thermostat for best results.

30+ comments and no one has said they have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into curling stones, or why?

It's now the 16th and mudpuddie hasn't reported back in. Should somebody go check that everything's okay?

I really don't want to see a headline: "Area woman found dead in bacon-scented hallway surrounded by purring cats with brooms".

The Great Southern Land *keyboard riff* is quite large.
There is no Curling near me.
Which is why I wonder why we spend a fortune sending athletes.
