Lord of the Jing(le)s

Miami Ad School Berlin student Valerio Amaro combines his two passions in life (advertising and The Lord of the Rings) by asking himself, "What would happen if J.R.R Tolkien worked in advertising?" His answer: One Ad To Rule Them All .

Missed tumblr title opportunity: One Ad To Rule The Mall.

It did not take long for that font to go from "mildly whimsical" to "cast it into the fires of Mount fucking Doom".

Oh, Thank you Lobster Mitten.
This made me laugh so hard.

Just googled The Lord of the Rings quotes which confirmed that yes, there are large swaths of poetry throughout.

Somewhere out in the world right now, someone is reciting it by heart.

In sum this tumblr is glorious.

Gross. Didn't you guys get enough capitalized Tolkien yet? Is this just because you like puns?

Momentarily alarmed that there is something called "Miami Ad School Berlin."

Also: not sure but I think Tolkien would abominate this.

I wonder how he'd feel about all those so-called fans of his who reject his beloved Silmarillion as not worth the trouble? ;-)

Anyway, I think Tolkien's art is strong and established enough to withstand this blow to its integrity.

All published art enters the culture at a certain point, and belongs to it thereafter.

At university we were encouraged to do this sort of thing, as a method of engaging with the source material. Break it down and build it up in new and interesting ways. They called it 'textual intervention'. I found it quite a mind-opening exercise.

I like old-style 'gentle idea, nice artwork, and maybe a pun' advertising.

Everyone used to hate the industry - now (partly thanks to Mad Men) we're almost the nice guys, compared to tech startups run by MBA bro objectivists.

Loved this. I saw a poster in a shop in Greenwich the other day which just had a lidless eye over nine interlocking rings (think the Olympic logo) and the legend "Mordor 3019" - and Goddamit, I laughed.

Wow, that Chanel ad is actually perfect. They should use it.

With a different font because fuck.

Yes, I laughed like a hyena at that Chanel mock-ad. The whole tumblr is worth it for that one.
