Unfortunately I can only sing "We built this city on chocolate Swiss roll". It's a brain thing.

Who knew cul-de-sacs were rock and roll?

What is it with creepy CGI kittens in ads recently? These people should Google 'uncanny valley'.

I was very disappointed to read, "We're so sorry but this experience is not available in your country." I had some people I really needed to troll really wanted to make my own "kitten-rocking, face-morphing music video."

I love the Three advert. Love it so much. There is deep, deep joy in driving/riding/skating fast and belting out 80s power pop.

Mod note: A couple of comments deleted; if we need to talk about problems with this being posted, that would be a Metatalk thing.

Do you like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste, but when Sport came out in '83 I think they really came into their own - commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter - cynical sense of humor. In '87 Huey released 'Four'. Its their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is 'Its Hip to be Square' - a song so catchy most people probably don't listen to the lyrics, but they should - because its not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of friends, its also a personal statement about the band itself.

Have a kitty saying that and a mouse singing It's Hip to be Square - and I think this could be 80's magical.

So I loved danceponydance, but the girl/bike/cat effort leaves me totally cold. I'm sure the problem is with me.

'Scuse me, gonna go get my pink bike and put on my red boots and start the sprinklers...

Oh. Never mind.

I think that song was what killed rock music, single fucking handedly. It really is the Worst. Song. Ever. So no matter how cute this video might be, you can't make me watch it with the sound up. It brings back a very deep grief stricken realization from when I was about 19 that all my ideals were illusions.

Budgie video would be better with the Mary J/Method Man version though.

That's why the cat should be saying that... and let the mouse sing the song... most of the way through.

The commercials were cute but I have to third the opinion about Starship's WBTC being the worst pop song of the '80s, if not the entire 20th century. What made it even more confusing was that this was a UK ad, a nation (actually commonwealth) with a very rich rock and roll tradition/history from which they could have easily chosen a much better song for the ad...hell, any song would have been a better choice. I know there are usually some horrible things on the UK charts too but I generally consider Britain much more hip and/or tasteful when it comes to their listening choices, so I'm always surprised when a shitty, generic (American) song/"artist" makes it big over there. Case in point: they've always been crazy about Bon Jovi too.

The budgie has a surprisingly feminine voice, considering it's a boy.
