April Fools' Day, everyone's (least) favorite day on the Internet, brought a 73-minute movie to Netflix of a rotisserie chicken uncooking. What a waste of reversed video.

Reversing video can take the mundane and make it way cooler. Like, for example, eating cotton candy or watching fireworks. Hell, the the classic BBC show Red Dwarf based an entire episode ("Backwards") on reversing video (which you can then watch in reverse, er, forward, er, backwards, er, whatever.)

But perhaps my favorite example of this is a machine that creates anything.

Neat post.

Am still pissed about this Netflix-related April Fool's joke. It was picked up by Jezebel's Groupthink and Moviepilot.

Those people are going to the special hell

This being Metafilter, I'm surprised it wasn't Netflix's bacon video that was mentioned.

It's a little bulkier than the Replicator on the Enterprise, but the sounds it makes are way cooler.

(I also can't believe I watched that entire 5 minute clip... mesmerizing.)

This year, Google's auto-hoffsome thing is pretty clever. Its able to adapt for lighting, positioning etc, and sometimes place the hoff behind things.

This year, Google's auto-hoffsome thing is pretty clever.

I discovered the auto-awesome thing last night. I was horrified. I just had to delete a picture that had had animated snowfall crapped all over it, because I couldn't figure out any way to remove it after the fact. I turned it off in my preferences (on by default? Really?) with a shudder.

So this morning, when I heard about the auto-hoffsome thing, I initially assumed that the whole auto-awesome thing was a gag. That would have been impressive.

Well congratulations. You have discovered the single greatest video in the history of you tube. No one will ever be more clever and the denouement of what's left of modern civilization will be marked by the millions of suicides by people who realize they will never see anything funnier than this.

So i just got home and watched both of these for a second... is anyone else REALLY unsettled by the lighting? the chicken one looks like some saw type torture porn because of it, and the bacon is just unappetizing and slightly disturbing.

They look like video clips of meat from some anti-carnist propaganda or something in how it almost seems like they were intentionally poorly lit. I realize they probably just handed a camera to some intern, but it's still weird.

You make it sound like you lost the picture, but deleting is all you need to do, Google saves the auto-awesomed version separate from the original. At least that's what it's done the few times Google has auto-ed my pictures.
