Not a patch on the original.

Be wary of clicking on the other BBC One Live Lounge videos. Bastille's version of Miley Cyrus. Miley Cyrus doing Summertime Sadness. Arctic Monkeys doing Drake. 30 Seconds to Mars doing Rihanna. 30 Seconds to Mars doing Lady Gaga. All of them delightful.

I got Kings of Leon and Kings of Convenience mixed up in my head and was expecting this to be 100% scandinavian instead of just the 50% scandinavian that is.

Speaking of Robyn covers, Lucy Wainwright Roche has a very different version of Call Your Girlfriend.

I'm rather fond of this version that sounds like a cover even though it's not.

There are so many Robyn songs I want to cover with unchanged pronouns, CYG chief among them.

oh good - a place to mention all my favourite covers I have discovered recently??

Sara Bareilles covering Cee-Lo Green's "F-ck You" (also with original pronouns).

And Miley Cyrus doing the Arctic Monkeys' "Why Do You Only Call Me When You're High" (as mentioned above

And Lissie covering Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness"

And Jenny Owens covering Nelly's "Hot in Here"

And Anya Marina's cover of TI's 'Whatever You Like"

Looks like I like women with guitars playing covers of pop/hip hop music!! The above are all great.

If we're speaking of women recently doing great covers, let's give some love to Joan Jett, Kim Gordan, Lorde, and especially St. Vincent.

I've had enough with this war on pronouns.

Night Beds doing same for The Onion's AV Club.

Turns it into a boring droning song with buried vocals.

Seems like a popular song to cover, I saw/filmed Basia Bulat do a cover of Dancing on my own recently in Stockholm.

Clicked through fully intending not to like it but I really did. Haven't been a fan of KoL for a long time but Caleb Followill's voice is gorgeous to me, and it's interesting to hear him wring the pain out of the lyrics in a different way than Robyn's quiet desperation.

I clicked intending to love it because I have a secret admiration of the dude from KOL's voice but the muddy and drab guitar playing didn't really do it for me. He sings it well but it needs a new arrangement. They should have rocked it basically.

Damn hepta, that Miley Artic Monkeys cover, now that is dope.

I'm not a fan of everything KOL does but this hit their best points for me. I actually love the droning guitar as a rhythm to back up the solo parts. Enough people use guitar as the main course in a song. I enjoy hearing it used as a garnish.

Sara Bareilles covering Cee-Lo Green's "F-ck You" (also with original pronouns).

That's a really fun cover, but any version that avoids saying "nigga" loses some points in my mind, simply because "looks like she's a gold digga'/just thought you should know nigga'" is the greatest couplet in pop music history.

My favorite unchanged pronoun cover is Flaming Lips doing Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out of My Head

So for the unchanged-pronoun bit, I had always assumed Robyn was saying "I'm not the guy you're taking home" and it's oddly a little disappointing to find out she'd always been saying "girl."

Can some dude do a cover of Neko Case's Man, pls thx okay?

Seeing as we're sharing covers, I'd highly recommend checking out Triple J's "Like a Version" series.

Some of note:

John Butler Trio covering Pharell's 'Happy'

Owl Eyes covering Pumped Up Kicks

San Cisco covering Get Lucky

I think I would be super uncomfortable if she said that, if only because when I listen to that cover I like to pretend I am personally rocking out on stage and I would be uncomfortable saying that.

meandthebean -
Thank you for reminding me that the Lips did that cover. I saw them just last night and didn't remember that happened until just right now.

It's the best.

Cant Get You Out of My Head was also covered live (with no pronoun switching cop-outs) by Coldplay in a suitably charming/goofy/pretty-darn-catchy manner. Best part of the video: Chris Martin's seemingly unbroken eye contact with Johnny Buckland throughout the performance.

Marina and the Diamonds's Starstrukk is devastating (in an emotional way).

dry white toast: William Shatner's cover had the backing singers say "just thought you should know Shatner", which is a perfect, albeit non-rhyming, substitute.

And on the not-changing-pronouns front, Darren Hayes covers White Town's Your Woman intact.

Joey Michaels: THE JOAN JETT TRACK HOLY SHIT THAT'S AMAZING

I love how Nirvana paired up with female singers, that's awesome! I posted that on Twitter and someone suggested that Nirvana reband with Joan Jett permanently. Cosign.

And on the not-changing-pronouns front, Darren Hayes covers White Town's Your Woman intact

But then White Town is a man so the pronouns were already part of the appeal of that song, which I love.

divabat: I am serious. I will travel anywhere in the world to watch the Joan Jett-fronted Nirvana perform. Its like the song was actually written for her voice and guitar style.
