It's time to cut USians some slack.

"It’s easy to make fun of Americans." They have a less-than-good reputation abroad, but it may simply be a "case of the vocal few ruining it for the polite majority."

This post was deleted for the following reason: I would love, love to talk at length about whether this is pitch-perfect Swiftian satire or lazy, stereotype-perpetuating clickbait, or both. But this doesn't seem to be well received and I can sort of see it may not work that well here, sorry. -- goodnewsfortheinsane

Ha I just posted that in my facebook feed. Living abroad can be tough sometimes. I'm not particularly defensive about America but it's hard when people just relentlessly shit-talk your country right in front of you like you're not standing right there. It makes me feel invisible.

I'm American. I'm not dumb, and I'm not friendly, either.

I agree. When I realise I'm being unfair, or taking the underlying niceness for granted (so easy to do), I try to imagine what the world would be like if North America had been colonised exclusively by the French. Imagine the hauteur, imagine the lectures - imagine the belligerence.

God bless America!
