On the Realistic Mario video: Mario doesn't hit blocks with his head, he punches them with his hand, from below. Watch him jump sometimes: he always raises up his hand over his head when he leaps.

Whether the video would be funnier if Mario was screaming holding his hand in agony instead of his head, I leave it for you to decide.

This is one of those videos that you show to someone who played SMB back in its heyday but isn't super-savvy about watching the latest (2012 nonwithstanding) YouTubes and that person LOLs with childlike glee and you find it infectious to be sharing the experience and witnessing their LOLs and so you also LOL much more than when you first watched it alone.
