BROZAC Another new drug? Not really. It's all fun and games. This commercial spoof shows us that one day there may be a drug for just about everything.

The stereotype-per-second ratio on that was extraordinary.

Yeah, but remember, when black people stereotype black people, it's not offensive.

That was funny.

Drugs are bad! Don't do drugs! Just say no! Other propaganda-like blanket statements!

That wasn't really that funny, but it was one hell of self-link.
Don't peolpe usually have to pay for advertising on Metafilter?

On the other hand, I thought it was relatively funny. I'm not in the "it's ok for black people to use ethnic stereotypes" camp, but I would be hard-pressed to find a way to call this particular case harmful.

Self-linking, however, is bad form. Bad bad bad!

I saw stereotypes being subverted, not exploited. What did everybody else see?

Chokersandwich: Now, everytime I see one of your commercials, I can elbow the person next to me and say, "I know that guy."

Thank you for that.

Well, I think the stereotypes were being made fun of. To me, that's different from subversion, which makes it sound like the filmmakers were on a mission. Maybe they were, but I like the notion that they were just trying to make people laugh.
