Welcome to West Roanoke, a tumblr with pictures by Kaleb Horton (whose Twitter is here and whose writing about pop culture is here) and captions by Chris Barrus (whose Twitter as @quartzcity is here and whose blog Quartz City is here). Updates come every Saturday.
That blog stole its name from one of the better books about a city
City Of Quartz: Excavating the Future in Los Angeles
I expected pictures from beyond the Blue Ridge in Virginia, I got pictures to go with the Pavement lyrics in my head.

From an entry on the poetry of police reports:
In the town itself, people are quiet, and generally afraid of rising crime rates. But out in the country, where there are houses not meant to ever be found, there’s a sense of lawlessness, where people have been too hardened by rain and fire to care if Johnny stole a beer from the convenience store. Anything illegal that can happen with a chainsaw happens in the country. Chainsaws and shotguns come up almost as often as people in the rural reports.
Ha, that line is so great. It sounds kind of like a bit of dialogue from this old comic strip called Achewood.

Are you saying it's lifted from Achewood, or are you genuinely just saying it's like a line from Achewood?

Chico and Shingletown were there, too, The Bridge.
But I'm with you. Redding is a great place to be from.
