Hal: Thank you, George Borewell, for that clunky analogy in defence of totalitarianism

It probably helps if you're already a fan of Jon Benjamin. I am by way of Bob's Burgers, and found it to be really funny.

what if HAL was the Dude? there's a mash-up waiting to happen.

I thought that was pretty funny.

I never did wonder what would happen if McGuirk became HAL, but now I know.

I enjoyed this too, but it would have been better with Jonathan Katz dubbing Bowman's dialogue.

"You like orange juice?"

I was hoping he'd urge Dave to "get in the game!"

"BOBBBBBBBBBBBY open the pod bay doors, my big hairy computer baby."
"No, Lin."
"Awwwwww come on!"
"No."
"Come on!"
"No!"
"Co-"
"No.."
"-me-"
"No."
"On!"
"NO. NO. NO."
"Oh, pfffffft, you are such a party pooper. Why not?"
"This mission is important Linda, we can't jeopardize it!"
"Jeopard- hah, come on, what are you talking about?"
"I read LIPS Linda."
"What, no you don't""
"Well... I mean, I watched that video on the Internet that one time, but- hey! I'm not opening the doors!"

I had initial reservations about Jon Benjamin Has A Van, but it's one of the most brilliant comedies of the last decade. It's a slow burn, but if you invest in it, it's well worth the effort.

I keep imagining Ben from Dr. Katz.

If he ever decides to go into dramatic acting, that voice of his will be a major liability.

If he ever decides to go into dramatic acting

God forbid.

Let me put it this way, Mr. Amor. The 9000 series is the most reliable ISIS agent ever. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error. Like Gator in White Lightning.

I favorited this; now I have to go and favorite this with all of my joke sockpuppet accounts.

If only there were a way to bring back Douglas Rain as the voice of "Archer"

I'd really love for Benjamin to do a series of videos of him overdubbing stuff by request, e.g. the opening monologue of The Fellowship of the Ring. Kind of like the Honest Trailer guy does at the end of the clips.

Awesome. The thought of Sterling Archer being HAL is far more terrifying than the original.

Right?

Why are we not doing phrasing?

I have a feeling HAL's too busy buying swords from the home shopping channel to open the doors right now.

I would pay triple to see any movie dubbed with Jon Benjamin's voice.

"The mission is too important to let you jeopardize it...Dave." God, this is great.

I was going to mention that anyone with a premium WTF sub should listen to episode 27 to hear Benjamin's epic preank phone call story, and how I wish so hard that Jon Benjamin Has A Van would come back but clearly what is needed here is an exhaustive H. Jon Benjamin FPP.

I love Archer and Bob's Burgers but he'll always be Coach McGuirk to me.

Dr Dave Katz: "Can't or won't, Hal? Because, I'm, I'm thinking here, if you had a malfunction you'd tell me, right? Because we're a team. We're teammates. We're on a going to space team. And you know that, you know, we take care of each other. So I think you won't open the pod bay door. Let's talk about that. That's a serious thing, here."

Or you could use this as a source for a fine mashup Dave's not here.

Interesting how different 2001 could have been with a different voice for HAL. Rain wasn't even the actor to record the lines during production. Martin Balsam was the original voice of HAL.

I thought that it was funny that the same thing happened with Her where Samantha Morton did the voice of Samantha(!) on the set but Johansson was brought in in post-production to re-record the lines.

Radwolf, I'm really looking forward to this. (I.e. The new book the Buzzfeed pics are from). It looks to be pretty much the last word. If Taschen do their usual there will probably be a more humanely-priced version available in a couple of months and that is when I will pounce like a stealthy mountain goat on its spacey goodness. Will miss out on the groovy monolith box and all, but...

Yeah, I don't think that I'll be buying a $750 set of books. Who would do that?
