Don't steal gas during a volcano. Bad things will happen.

Wow, volcanos are now events, eh? Like, do not unbuckle your seat belt while car.

Can we blame the French for this one? It's their former colony, I think. And probably their gas station.

Clearly this is a Rogue Volcano with no respect for international law and decent standards of human treatment.

Paris: The Congo was former colony of Belgium.

Panopticon. Yes. Of course. still, I suspect that since WWII, France has had a much large influence on the place. In any case...

This thread is unfunny. Maybe it has made a funny headline, but it's nothing laughable.

Poor people.

No. Not funny. Tragic. It's just that most of Africa is such a disaster that we can do little more than do what's going on here.

Okay, for an actual relevant link (and to make up for my previous flippancy) - If you really want to learn about the heartache that is and has been Congo since the colonization by Belgium, then point your TiVos at ABC for the next five nights. Nightline is doing a five-part series on Congo called the Heart of Darkness. I heard about this a couple days before the volcano, and just shook my head later - when the volcano erupted... What could possibly happen next?

Whoops - I just evented a noun as well - that should have been "a couple days before the volcano erupted..."

Guess I didn't heed "do not mistake while metafilter".

According to Bill Bryson, Americans have been turning nouns into verbs for years (eg. to vaccuum, to dust, to ski, to sled). Surely "to volcano" will pass easily into the American language.

However, I say why not start a reverse trend and start turning verbs into nouns again?
