I'd prefer to see Lupin III as done by Jim Steranko....

Some of those are terrible, but the Jack Kirby Akira is amazing.

This just reinforces my belief that Jack Kirby could have drawn anything.

(I know it's not really Kirby art.)

I have literally never wondered this.

That said, the "Akira" cover is splendid. The rest don't really feel right as representations of the artists' style.

The Bryan Lee O’Malley one kind of defeats the purpose since his style is heavily manga-influenced anyway.

The Rob Liefeld one nailed the feet.

How about Archie artist Bob Montana doing Ranma 1/2?

Never mind, I found someone already had that idea.

Holy cats, the rest are a little meh, but that Kirby Akira makes this truly best of the web. That is amazing. It captures both the essence of Kirby's style and some of the essential "Akira-ness" of the manga. Blow away.

"Akira" is a pretty common Japanese name - apparently meaning "bright boy" or "intelligent". I'm sure my sloppy googling is way off, but I'm equally sure the name was chosen to both be a very common one, and to to fit the storyline.

The extremely common name "Michael" apparently comes from the Hebrew "Who is like god?" - which has a pretty nice resonance.

The Rob Liefeld one nailed the feet.

Or utter lack thereof.

This is the "Anime done by US/Canadian artists" thread. The "Northern Renaissance Crucifixion Triptychs done by US/Canadian artists" thread has yet to be made.
