Cat-Scan.com is one of the strangest sites I've seen in some time. I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why.

The ones who draw do. AFAIK there's still nothing better than a good desktop scanner for scanning original line/inked art for coloring and so on.

Those first few posts up above are a little self-referential.
They reminded me that "The Incomparable" podcast's 200th episode last month was a best-of clip show. One of the guests, Steve Lutz, chose as his favorite moment from 2014 another guest on that same 2014 episode choosing Lutz himself in 2013 choosing himself in 2012 choosing as his favorite episode himself choosing Skeletor in their "TV character draft" episode. (Which, BTW, was hilarious.)
And they played the whole damn nested loop of clips, which took like five minutes. It was quite a stretch for a joke, and yet I am looking forward to its inevitable, shambling appearance in the next best-of clip show!

So the hot new editor for programmers (named Sublime Text) has been around for six years and is in its third major release. And it doesn't have a Print button, or any printing functionality at all. At first people are irritated, or even outraged, but when you think about it, there's really not much reason to ever print out your code. Your programs are documents that never exist on paper. And there are images that spend their entire lifetimes as bit too. It kind of blew my mind to think about this.

Wow. 15 years and still rocking the text-dense non-buzzword-compliant interface. How about sprucing it up a bit, maybe dressing it up with Bootstrap and some HTML5 animations, maybe adding a few cat video clips on autoplay, and some keyword stuffed SEO-juice?

Last year MeFi made me so happy by dumping favourites on my new kitten. This year I got my AMAZING ANONYMOUS SECRET QUONSAR GIFT up on the wall (our custom framer made a stretcher for it) and got a great tattoo worthy of sticking in a scanner. It makes me so happy that MeFi loves my cats so much. Biggest thanks to everyone and their cats.

Yesterday at the 90 minute mark in the Argentina Germany world cup match I did not know who Mario Gotze was. About a half-hour after the match I decided to look at his wikipedia page. Some genius had posted in the first paragraph that he was the inspiration for the goat.se meme after the way he had sodomized the Argentina defense.
That part has now been removed.

For her 15th birthday last month, I got my daughter a Metafilter account. Of all the presents she received, that was the one she was most excited about—it's been a nightly ritual for her for years to say "What's on metafilter??" and read over my shoulder as I browsed, and she takes inordinate pride in discovering cool things BEFORE they show up on Metafilter (mostly because usually when she shows me stuff I'm like oh yeah, I saw that on Metafilter, and it is super annoying to have your mom know about cool stuff before you do). Anyway, the best part for me (as I tweeted to Matt when it happened) was listening to her try to explain to her 15-year-old friends why exactly she was so excited about having a membership and how it was like a rite of passage for her. As she put it, "Metafilter is like Tumblr for smart grown ups!" (Which is totally in keeping with how she and her peers use tumblr, which is as a resource for all things funny, interesting, thought-provoking, diverting.) So, happy birthday, Metafilter! This might be your last year of getting to stay up late and sleep in til noon and ask other people to bring you food and drink so you don't have to get off the couch while you simultaneously watch Netflix, group-text your friends, make Vine video edits and Hannibal crack vids, and tweet your music celebrity crushes, because next summer you're getting a part-time job!
