Thorzdad: the inset-style cans appear to being retired in the UK... Heinz don't use them any more, at least. Trying to stack a cupboard last weekend resulted in much swearing.

One of the greatest advances in supermarket technology was the development of cans with interlocking/nesting top and bottom lids. I don't know when that simple little tweak came to market, but it made stacking cans in the pantry a joy. Occasionally, I'll bring home a can with the old-school top and bottom (I'm looking at you, La Preferida...) and it completely upsets the orderliness of my pantry.
