Spidey Spidey Awesome: The World of Disneycartoys

Somewhere on the internet Barbie, Elsa, and Anna are BFFs. Disneycartoys is a mashup of doll, action figure, and play-doh "unboxing" videos which often break out of the unboxing genre and evolve into full-on crossfic narratives, featuring Barbie, the Disney princesses, and occasionally an effeminate Spiderman.

Wow, my daughter found this weeks before it made Metafilter. She's five and WAY ahead of the curve.

My kid watches these, clicked over from her Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse, which I almost refused to let her watch until I realised just how funny it is, plus I am a bad mother. Then she found some fan versions and bam. She doesn't ask for the dolls or toys that are being played with, and she was already doing the playacting with her dolls before the videos. The only thing they seem to have encouraged is on obssessive and total avarice for anything in a plastic egg. If it's in a plastic egg, she wants it.

I hope this becomes more common - it reminds me of Potter Pals.

My kid stumbled upon this strange genre of videos on his own as well. Another popular one is DisneyCollectorBR. A buzzfeed article reports that this is a very lucrative market earning DisneyCollectorbr as much as $13 million a year.

The best part about the weird world of Play-Doh eggs is that they might serve as stand-ins for kids getting more toys (my son hasn't asked for any of the toys shown in the videos, at least). The worst? The music. Oh gods, there are some terrible songs.

I must confess that my daughter was the one who found this on her own as well. We were stumbling around Youtube as Disney was aggressively taking down Frozen song videos, these became our Plan B. :)

My daughter also loves these videos! It's pretty much all she wants to watch on Youtube these days.

bigdave, thanks for the link to that buzzfeed article. DisneyCollectorBR is one of my daughter's favourites. I am surprised to see that she lives in Florida... I always thought that Kinder-egg style chocolate eggs with toys inside were banned in the U.S. Can you buy those style of treats in general in America, just not the Kinder-branded ones?
