I'm sure part of the problem is that trends no longer have a natural, organic growth and decay like they used to. Now the internet learns about something and beats it to death. Every time. And so there's always a peak something, because we no longer do anything without it immediately becoming oversaturated, overexamined, overhyped. We're always shouting from the rooftops about something or other, and then backlashing about it, and then backlashing over the backlash. The popularity of this particular phrase charts our condition nicely.

Saw the kitten photo, and immediately assumed it was originally a photo of Abbott that had been kittenised by a plugin. I think we can all agree we've reached peak Abbott.

We've accelerated the flow of information to the point we're seeing the whole system shift into a chaotic phase. It's normal nonlinear systems behavior, like the transition point when you've added enough heat to a pot of water its flow becomes turbulent and the orderly cycles give way to a rapid, uniform boil.

"Peak Oil" and "Peak Beard" are two different things; "Peak Oil" means a looming shortage of oil. "Peak Beard" means a glut of beards.

It really should not be "Peak Beard"; it should be "A Beard Glut."

We thought we had reached peak clickbait but it turns out the fuckers keep making the mountain higher.

One is tempted to yell 'Bullshit!' but back in the thirties Fuller graphed out the rate at which elements were being discovered to point out that discoveries build on each other - and that some point, people were going to be making fundamental new discoveries at an alarming rate - and humanity would eventually either master change and technology or be overwhelmed by it.

There is a 100% chance that people will at some point refer to today as the good old days when everything was so much better, so if we're not at a peak we are at least on the downhill side of the hill.
