This is a good resource. I've also found Malinda Lo's Should White People Write About People of Color and Marie Lu's Writing Diverse Fiction: A Practical Guide helpful.

Writing advice from unpublished people in their 20s?

I still remember the day I walked around the YA section of Borders, back when they were in Australia, and realised there were more books with vampires/werewolves/angels/demons than characters of colour.

This is nothing new, of course. PoC have been talking about problems with under-representation and stereotypes for years. But what I see growing is the number of young, white authors who want to write diverse characters into their stories and are reaching out for advice as to how to do it, and I think that's fantastic. Just as we need men to care about writing good female characters (a discussion that's exploding in games right now), we need authors to care about writing good, interesting, nuanced characters of all races. Sites like this will help them do it.

May the next generation write themselves the YA they deserve.

Thanks for the link, MartinWisse.
