Seems to work pretty well. I want to share my mixtape with all of you, but the sign-in process was through Facebook and there's no way to edit out my real name. That's not so good.

I was looking for something like this. You are limited to YouTube songs but it works great for what I needed.

No simulated Maxell XLII? What kind of mixtape is this? (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

I kid. I'm just heartbroken that you can only sign in through Facebook or G+ since I don't have either of those things -- does it limit you to 30 or 45 minutes per side? Because I might be willing to make a fake Facebook or G+ account if it does.

No TDK SA-90 either.

Also it looks like you can just keep piling on songs so the fun part of getting things timed so that you don't waste an inch of tape isn't there anymore.

I used to keep a handwritten list of < 60-second songs organized in order of length so I could time the silence after the last official song and fill the gap flawlessly. Yep. It's been a good life.

It would be cool if one of these sites actually went to the effort of simulating the sound of degraded tapes. You could choose from a variety of options: brand new, slightly worn, disintegrated, found in the wreckage of the Titanic, recovered from a vat of acid...

You can sign in with a Google account too. I just made a new Gmail account with my MeFi name on it to make mixtapes with - it worked fine like that.

A physical USB key with audio controls that plays a mix and looks like a small cassette.

Yay, I used an anon google account as flex suggested. Here's my mix - all new music from the past month or so: suandive

Yeah, for the real cassette experience, this should get stuck in your computer and continuously play every time you start it up, until you are finally able to destroy it with a screwdriver and pliers.

Also, nice touch using that Caribou song with the weird tempo distortion as the first song there, naju, that's good for the verisimilitude.

Do we need a paperclip to get it to rewind properly?

I forgot how sharp those Teak tapes looked.

Pretty sad simulacra of actual mixing, as you can't add upload from your own collection, only selections from youtube; also it requires privacy invasion via facebook or youtube in order to login.
All it amounts to is just a pseudo-nostalgic way of packaging a youtube playlist.

Just made a Google account under my MeFi username -- this website is fantastic. The controls and graphics and UI are just perfect. And you can edit the track titles without using Wite-Out on the j-card! I have to send this link to the middle school friends I still trade mixes with.

The apparent lack of Soundcloud support (all SC links appear to redirect to YT?) is vexing me since that's where most of my new music discovery and sharing happens, but it was still a ton of fun to work within the provided constraints. Here's my (NSFW) mixtape of a baker's dozen songs that make me feel like a million bucks: lucky number.

I think my imaginary dream website is a combination of Bandcamp, This is My Jam, AOL Spinner (RIP)... and now suan.fm. Thanks for another awesome post, flex!

Am I the only person who can't get past the picture of the tape and get to any songs to actually create a mix? I'm trying it in Chrome and Firefox. Is there something I'm missing?
