Cute trick - - wonder how long it took to train them?

Not to deny that other animals are gaining intelligence and will soon enslave us all for what we've done to them, but when I watch this all I see is "Dog retrieves tennis ball from pool while another dog bites his tail for reasons only a dog can understand."

Dog retrieves tennis ball from pool while another dog bites his tail for reasons only a dog can understand because the tail is the closest you can get to tasting another dog's butthole without actually directly licking that dog's butthole.

I loved this too. Of course I think the Aussie dreamed this up. (Re why I think that, see my profile pic.)

Just another example of why dogs are the best.

It could be "I'm herding you away from the water because you're too stupid to go near the water."

I once again feel compelled to share this video of my idiot dog.

"I am a Sheltie and I am going to grab and tug anything that is grabbable and tuggable. You may call it a tail, but I call it a rope toy."

This is like when my girlfriend drags me away from the pizza buffet because I'm full to the point of vomiting and my tear ducts are seeping mozzarella but there's still one bit of pizza there and I need it.

My personal favorite from the genre: bulldogs using teamwork to retrieve tire from pool.

Sheep dog did that to me, as a child, playing by the pool, too. Wanted to herd me away from danger.

After-action report:

Black dog: "I got the tennis ball out of the swimming pool."

White dog: "There was a tennis ball?"

This is so awesome. And yeah, I think this has to do with herding instinct having seen similar conduct. The sheep dog was trying to help not to fall in. The only human question is whether the black dog had any level of thought of "with the sheep dog's help, I can reach this safely." I'm sure that didn't happen. Still really cute.

Some day super intelligent AI's will say the same thing about their data file: Humans using teamwork to figure out wrist wearable fusion reactor design. I only hope it's with the same level of affection.

Atom eyes - despite seeing bulldogs use the same skills to incapacitate and rip the throat out of a pig, that is a great and far less bloody trick.
