Butch Cannon, Bear Detective

In 2010, BEAR Magazine introduced an occasional single-page comic by Logan Kowalsky, Butch Cannon: The Bear Private Eye, full of pretty typical gay magazine comics tropes. [Entirely NSFW]

There is no indication as to whether this is a complete collection, but Kowalsky has done a lot of other work along the same lines.

Some people collect superhero comics. If I were wealthy, a small part of me would like to collect sordid strips with comically oversized members and terrible innuendo.

But how will it fit into the Marvel Continuum?

Good point Devonian, I'm not sure that he's sufficiently Dorito-shaped.

I love how the top Google images search result is from Pinterest.
Like maybe somebody has a wedding planning list, a bathroom inspiration list, and a boot-to-the-neck-while-cumming-in-chains list.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS ABOUT BEARS.

I mean it sort of is, but not the sort of bears I thought.

He performs shockingly little detective work.

...wait hold on, now that I'm looking at these, they're not-even-kinda rapey. The one with the sailor? Drunk followed by physical assault, rape, and explicit use of the word 'predator'?

Yeah, I noticed that and was trying to formulate a politic way of mentioning it...

Yeah. I mean, rape fantasies are a thing, and they're totally okay fantasies to have (on both sides), and they're totally okay to play out so long as there is very carefully negotiated and explicit consent. But there's nothing in that sailor cartoon that says the sailor wanted that sequence of events to happen. Quite the contrary; he was drunk (therefore maybe he consented? we all know what drunk people are like), he liked it after (therefore obviously he wanted it in the first place), etc.

Turn that sailor into a woman and the MeFi outrage brigade (self included) would be all over it. Perhaps there's an element of 'can't criticize queer content' going on? I don't know. But if that's it, here's one queer man saying please criticize rape culture no matter what genders are involved.

If the comic had been drawn from the point of view of the sailor saying "I wish Daddy would just come and take me rough" that would be a completely different thing. This? This is just gross.

I found this unpleasant.
