Bill Gates no Longer World's Richest Man. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Larry Ellison is an idiot.

My own personal opinion is that this is a temporary condition.

Also, keep in mind that Gates has made substantial transfers to charity in the last two years. (Has Ellison done anything equivalent?) If Gates had not done so, he'd still be in the lead.

Yes, most definitely, this is a temporary condition. I mean, Oracle? Come on. That's so 1995.

But I just can't be happy while Ellison sits on top of the world's throne of wealth. If the aliens were to descent to Earth and say "take us to your leader", we'd have to show them Larry Ellison (money = power, remember?). And I don't want alien civilisations thinking that the human race is just a bunch of self-centred asses like Larry.

And Bill Gates is a better example of the human race? Ouch. When the two evils are that bad, it's time to just make the Dollar useless and have everyone start over from scratch...

According to this article, Bill's ex-partner, Paul Allen, is now Number 3, and, now that he's closed his biggest money-losing enterprise and reportedly sold 2-billion bucks worth of his MS stock (two weeks ago when it was WORTH 2-billion), how long until the man they called a dreamer/under-acheiver/hippie when he walked away from MS becomes a contender for the top spot?

Hopefully not very long. Paul Allen's funded some pretty cool research and development companies. Not to mention mostly getting out of the active part of "the game" and just kicking back and enjoying himself...

'course, a terminal illness scare (don't remember what it was, unfortunately) will do that to most.

I thought the formula was money = power² = girls

Heh heh heh, as one of Larry's employees (yes, I am an Ora-droid) I sent the URL for this to my girlfriend (also one of Larry's minions), this is what she sent back:-

10 reasons why it wouldn't be nice to be Larry with his pots :

1 - Larry doesn't know who his true friends are.

2 - His kids will be spoilt brats

3 - he has probably picked up some nasty rashes from all his conquests

4 - He might have the money to buy a dream car, but would probably buy a BMW.

5 - He will never appreciate winning 10 pounds on the national lottery.

6 - He wouldn't know a bargain if it slapped him round the face

7 - Power and money don't breed wisdom...in his case, definately not.

8 - He will never want for anything, and therefore will never get any true satisfaction from things that he gets.

9 - He must be a NIGHTMARE to buy for at christmas!

10 - His life will never again be private.

Oh, why... oh why...

do people still do "top 10" lists with number 1 at the *top*?

(:-)

What order to put a Top 10 list in? Depends on if you're JUST presenting the information in it, or want to put on a dramatic presentation leading up to a big punch line or other climax. David Letterman only does it that way because Casey Kasem does it that way... I don't want to see election results with the winning candidate last (well, it depends on the candidate).

Erm, I think she was just presenting information. (probably wanted to know when to stop adding points)
