That is an astonishing testament to how long you can suppress an involuntary response if adequately motivated!

(Also I just kept thinking, every one of those reed players is going to have to throw out that reed.)

I'm surprised how they all remained so...

(...wait for it...)

...well composed.

For their next collaboration with red hot chili peppers, they will all perform wearing only tube socks.

I was so impressed to see them playing through their tears. That, ladies and gentleman, is dedication!

Wincing and laughing at the same time. Poor old brass players, having that involuntary sort of half vomit reflex that comes from eating hot peppers and having to play the trombone? Whoa.

I'm impressed by Chili Klaus' conducting skills too. Makes me wonder if he has prior experience or was just well coached.

From Google-translated Danish Wikipedia:

Pilgaard is originally from Jutland, but moved to Aarhus in 1992, when he was looking in and was admitted to the Royal Academy of Music. Here he graduated in 1996 . He has been musical director for several revues, and he has appeared with his wife Jette Torp and Finn Nørbygaard at the show Music & Fis .

No, that just comes from having to play the trombone.

ghhar that's awesome! It's always disappointing when an actor pretending to conduct goes for the "just wave your arms with the music" school of conducting, so I wondered...

Sometime soon on the web, we'll see a video of the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing while eating danish.

If you've never stood in front of a brass section and sucked on a lemon half, you should do that.

It's pretty funny.

Oh lord yes. Not only the current pain of eating the pepper, but the subsequent pain of a bassoonist making him/herself a new reed, cursing under their breath the whole time about that forbandet pepper...

Ok, that's pretty funny too. Sorry bassoonists-from-the-video. I'm laughing with you, not at you, I swear.

Historic Danish orchestra might survive after all. (This is regarding budget cuts. Presumably they all survived the peppers.)

If the worst does happen, at least the trombone is perhaps the easiest to clean out of all the brass instruments.

(those with weak stomachs may want to skip the rest of this comment, or at least be ready for it)

I once saw a guy vomit into a euphonium. It was during a rehearsal for a county-wide high school performance. While most didn't go into the instrument, a good amount did. Due to his intense efforts to both focus on playing and keeping himself from vomiting, when the moment came his embouchure acted like a lens for the first second or two, creating a 'laser beam of vomit' into the mouthpiece. I heard he had to take it back to get cleaned several times afterwards, at no small cost.

For our next challenge, we'll be traveling to Moscow to to the Bolshoi Theatre to see what happens when the Bolshoi Ballet Company attempts Swan Lake after taking the maximum safe dosage of laxatives.
