It's like an attempt to translate the Monty Python "hit the ball back at me like a bullet" skit that somehow drains it of all the funny.

Was that field EMT or whoever that came out to inspect him John Hodgman?

Okay, call me a sucker for comedy where one hapless dude gets repeatedly slammed in the face, but I'm a total sucker for comedy where one hapless dude gets repeatedly slammed in the face. (The third one was probably my favorite.)

I loved it and laughed out loud several times.

Man. Laughed hard. "His catlike face reflexes. " Thanks.

The commentators oversell it. By the time I got to the face shots all I could think was "why are the announcers so fake?"

AAAAA++++ for balls to the face.

I dunno. I LOLed at "I don't even care about this attempt."

Also, the fact that it was a packed crowd at a Yale-UNC soccer game, with (for some reason) British announcers, all on BYU campus tv.

I was too put off by the horrible attempts at English accents to watch it to the end.

"...that was anticlimatic!"

I LOLed.

Watching without sound (at work) and I didn't figure out until the third one that it was a gag.

It is, in my opinion, much funnier when actual British people pretend to commentate an actual football game, like so.

The last attempt reminds me of the Parry Gripp song

The commentators ARE the funny part. Not recognizing this reminds of my aunt who got 2 minutes into Holy Grail and turned it off.
"This is stupid. They're not even riding real horses. They're just pretending."
"Yes, Aunt Billy, that's the joke."
"It's not a joke; it's stupid. Couldn't they have gotten real horses?"
"Well, yes, but...y'know, nevermind."
