"Today is the best day I've had, probably, in my entire life."

Lauren Hill, a freshman basketball player at Division III Mount St. Joseph College, has an inoperable brain tumor. Yesterday her family announced that she has entered hospice care. Her courage is awe-inspiring. In the face of this terminal disease she has achieved two goals: to play in a college basketball game and to raise money for cancer research.

Would that we all find the same grace as this young woman has displayed when our time comes.

I saw a piece about this on CBS Sunday Morning. Not only did they devote a segment to Lauren, they also devoted one to the members of the opposing team, who were initially scheduled to have the home-game advantage on that day but immediately agreed to be the visitor team so as to make it easier on Lauren. They also had footage of the members of the opposing team all cheering their asses off when Lauren scored as well.

That was from November. The last as of today: Lauren Hill is getting hospice care at home as the inoperable tumor in her brain grows.

Sad.

Hospice is palliative, end of life care. Sad but apparently inevitable in this instance...

Thankfully they've decided on hospice care rather than very expensive torture during her last days.

Aw, man, watch EmpressCallipygos' link if you can. Tears. Tears out the sides of my head.

I'd said my usual expletives about cancer, but that seems less than appropriate. The CBS link was great for showing that reaction that would have been lost.

And yeah, it made me a little squishy.
