Potato Chip Cookies with Raisins "country style"
December 14, 2014 8:31 PM   Subscribe

"Okay out there in radio land, it's time to listen up, I've got something good to tell you and we gonna make some potato chip cookies" [SLYT]. I can't put my finger on what makes this video so enjoyable. Maybe it's the cavalier attitude towards recipe measurements, his assurance that "it might be good for you with them raisins in there" and all the non sequiturs. I can't speak for the cookies themselves but I guarantee you that this video is "gunna be good."

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Puts me in mind of Justin Wilson, the Cajun cook. Watch some of his videos if you don't know him.

its funny, because I eat vegan,, but my main response is that frying shit or mashing 'butter' takes so much work. Especially Cyrano's link. I would never ever cook anything that forced me to drop it in hot oil. So much work.

I did make this recipe the other day. It was gooood. I used the potato chips, but I had some that were sour cream and onion and some that were plain. I kept think the extra flavor would make them gooood. Instead of the grits, I did use an egg. Instead of the raisin, I only had white chocolate chips. Two and a half sticks of butter, not two and mine were unsalted not sure about his, but I knew this was going to be gooood. As for the sugar measurement, I think my hand is a little bigger than his so I used the technical amount, a bunch. Flour was the same. I must admit, I did taste it raw. It was goooood.

I even used chopsticks to eat them. Boy were they goooood. I could not find any tuttifruiti or fruit punch (It's magic!), but I found a 12 year old can of Hawaiian Punch. Fruit juicy Hawaiian punch.

Liked the post. Thanks.

"I've got some recipes that've hogwash, but not this one, this one is good!"

This is amazing, thanks for sharing. I might take a stab at baking them and report back.

And then the folksy man with the southern accent, who can't get over the fact that the Jarritos bottle says both "tutifruti" and ""fruit punch," eats his potato chip cookies with chopsticks.

In conclusion, America is a land of contrasts.

For most of the video, I was sitting here thinking, "I wonder how this dude thinks 'Jarritos' is supposed to be pronounced."

Then I found out and I was not disappointed.

"I wonder how this dude thinks 'Jarritos' is supposed to be pronounced."

That's nothing compared to "Bonna pa-teet".

There's no way this guy is an uneducated hick, he's got too exquisitely a poetic turn of phrase to be as truly ig'nernt as he's trying to pull off. This here video's a work a' goddam Art.

Somebody call PBS!

I'd become a regular subscriber if this guy had his own cooking show on there. It's about time they offered a cooking show for the rest of us anyway. They wouldn't even have to show his face, just film the shows like he does!

You put two sticks of butter in just about anything and it's gonna be good.

That guy's countertop looks exactly like the countertop back home, at my mom and dad's house in Texas. And that train sounded just like the train we can hear from our kitchen. So now I can't shake the idea that this guy lives in our little tiny neighborhood.

A: Duck tape.

I would be willing to lay down my life that this guy is one of my ex-mother in law's, two brothers. Not kidding. I was on the fence till the tutti frutti thing. Now I'm 10000% sure.

I knew this guy sounded familiar.

I came across his channel (link) a while back when watching some stuff on old gasoline hit and miss utility engines. This playlist is pretty neat if you're into that kind of thing.

What I find interesting is that what he's preparing is really no different or less innovative than the stuff they prepare on shows like Chopped, except this guy is charming whereas I find those shows to be annoyingly unwatchable. And, I actually learned two things: first, that powdered sugar contains corn starch (don't know how I didn't know that, but now I do!), and second, that an easy way to get all the refried beans out of a can is to open both sides of the can and push it through. And the rootbeer/bean candy sounds weird, but I bet it's purdy good.

Been doing this for years. It's a revelation the first time you do it. Also essential for tomato paste.

Point taken, but potato chip cookies are totally a thing. Martha Stewart and Paula Deen even have recipes.

This is a particular brand of cooking that I think of as deep south peasant (a long line of which I descent from) food. Like dill pickle and mayonnaise sandwiches. My great grandmother didn't make these, but it's the kind of thing she might have. And they woulda been goooood!

rancher: "This may be a dumb question, but do these cookies actually taste any good in real life?"
I have tried a version of these cookies. They were good in a novelty one or two times sort of way. I would have them again after a "Sleepover" or 3 bong hits.

I watched his recipe for onion soup. That is actually looking damn goooooood. He will deep fry just about anything dipped in pancake batter including the juice of maraschino cherries on bread.

the only thing that surprises me about that video is the chopsticks. a part of my childhood basically sounded like that.

There is sooo much tasty fried vegan food, it's ridiculous. *burps* (Excuse me. Eating dinner of dal made with a sizzling coconut oil-based tarka.) But yeah, I've had many, many tasty and fried-like-whoa vegan dishes.
