It's finally Friday, and I feel like celebrating with a smooth grooving' twist... and a little mashed potato and a little...

This post is perfectly timed to help me deal with my holiday angst. I had already decided that instead of getting outraged at my mother's incessant button-pushing over the holidays, I'm going to break into a rousing 10-second version of The Twist, complete with outsized dance moves, every time she crosses a boundary. (Which should keep me Twisting continuously for the entire week of our visit, but I digress.)
When my husband pointed out this could get a bit old, I offered to break it up with other 60s dances but I didn't know any. And Metafilter came to my rescue! Thanks, ecorrocio.

One of my goals in life since I was a Bandstand watchin' teen was to learn to do the Mashed Potato - now even at my advanced age....no can do!
Frustrating - as I'm a really good dancer (frug, watusi, stroll, Bandstand fast dance.etc) but I just can't get the footwork on the "Potato" and I've watched the videos like a million times!
