Soccer player's finger finger lopped off. Man, and I thought the "accidental" kicks to the groin in this sport were rough...

This might also have made a good Sportsfilter post. I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time this kind of injury has happened in "soccer". Seems daft to wear jewelry whilst playing. They'd always make us remove it in school (you could have someone's eye out with that).

I think the danger here is more endemic in the player than the sport.

finger finger

As in "give-the-finger-finger"?

apologies if that's obvious and I'm slow...couldn't tell from the article

When I was a referee I always made sure players had rings and earrings taped up. This is a good reason why.

As walrus says, SportsFilter is a good place for these kinds of posts. I don't know why it hasn't been "advertised" more here on MeFi. I'd repost the link there, but I doubt that there are any subscribers to SpoFi who aren't also subscribers to MeFi.

Okay, so "kingmissile" is reporting about a detachable member. Hmm...

Ummm... Hate to appear stupid, but what exactly is SportsFilter? (Yes, I've been to the site and I understand the concept, I guess I'm asking is there a connection to MeFi? Obviously they look similiar, but officially?)

First I'd even heard of it was in the Super Bowl thread. What else have I been missing?

Walrus, Salmacis,

A metafilter for sports? Oh my God. Thank you.

And the existence of SporsFilter does not reflect upon the worthiness of this or any other post for MetaFilter. MetaFilter's standards (ahem) are not beholden to SportsFilter.

Sorry, should have said that. And sorry about hijacking the thread. Etc.

My understanding was that SpoFi was supposed to remain unpublic/unadvertised until the buggies were worked out?

If sports posts are supossed to go to SportFi, then couldn't you say the same about every post here? I mean, i'm sure there a site for political posts, a site for tech posts (slashdot), and anything else out there. I may be thick headed, but i see no problem with posting sports links, unless SpFi is a MeFi affiliate.

Our little SpoFi is Mefi's kissing cousin - shared family but different part of the tree. So the sentiment that a post can live on both is all jiggy.

We're not an official Mefi affiliate, but the backend comes from #1 and us 7 founders are all fellow Mefians.

UncleFes: a good portion of the buggies are worked out, so have at her

Now get back to talking about people getting their fingers lopped off.

I'm trying to figure out a way to openly promote sportsfilter on metafilter as an additional community, and not a sub-section or a place where all sports news must go from now on. It's touchy, and I hope people don't post things like "this would be good for sportsfilter too" because it just leads to the unwanted conclusion (that sports don't belong on metafilter).

If you would like a sportsmined person at metafilter to know about this site, email them instead.
