The Boy In The Dress

At 6.55pm on December 26th the BBC screened an adaptation of David Walliam's children's novel "The Boy In The Dress." Reaction on Twitter was mixed, but the reviews were more positive. 13 year old actor Billy Kennedy who starred in the programme has written a blog post about working with all the famous people in it, and the Radio Times asks its online readers what they thought of it.

I am not sure if this is on BBC.com, it keeps redirecting me to the UK BBC homepage. Watch it if you can, even if you have to spoof your IP. I watched it with my parents and sister, and even my dad liked it, and he is an old working-class bloke who is slightly homophobic, so I was expecting him to hate it. Well done, BBC, sometimes you totally rock!

it can be found in the usual places, of course (eztv is back, yay)

I wasn't super-amazed, but the film is adorable and is very well worth seeing! "all the famous people in it" - that statement exactly mirrors my enjoyment of watching it (so, thank you so much for the interview/post, I loved reading that!)

it turned into this gigantic beautiful terrible trainwreck in my head, about how so many of these artists' work is interrelated - especially when you get into the recent deluge of absolutely lovely Welsh TV.

Speirs is so undersung and often overlooked! the incomparable Syal! obvs ties to Nina Wadia -> the new 'Still Open All Hours' -> the old 'Open All Hours', strands from there to Kulvinder Ghir, but also obvs other strands all around for GGM. Vegas, Moone Boy, Glenister, Big School, Stella, The Cafe, Bromwell, Some Girls, Bad Education... Bhaskar pops up all the time in these productions too! I love that, to the kid, these are the "famous people", because they're so, so skilled but not always recognized so much as they should be.

"BBC iPlayer TV programmes are available to play in the UK only." Ah, well.

As a rabid anglophile I am of course aware of Walliams, but I never really got into Little Britain. I was under the impression that the UK TG community kind of despised the show because of the "rubbish transvestite," "I'm a lady" catchphrase stuff. But this book would seem to confuse the issue a bit. It sounds rather pro-trans and charming.

Ursula Hitler - I despise little britain for everything, but particularly Lucas, who is way way privileged (10k a year public school privileged) - I was just amazed the beeb showed a pro-trans programme at that time on boxing day.

Sufficiently vile language to do justice to my feelings toward Little Britain does not exist.
