Time May Change Bowie

For David Bowie's 68th birthday (Jan. 8), artist Helen Green drew all of his hairstyles over time. The colorized, animated version is even better.

And yet, not a single smile in 50-some years.

And yet, not a single smile in 50-some years.

Ooo, an excuse to post one of my favorite pictures ever.

He's kind of smiling here - though the picture (at his 50th birthday party) is so much more.

Isn't this a major plot point in a movie?

Obviously I love it, but I swear I saw William Riker in there somewhere.

Needs "DEAL WITH IT" sunglasses at the end.

But seriously this is perfect.

Bowie & Lennon (I have no idea how famous this pic is but I love it)

If you're gonna use the hair from Labyrinth, you need to use the Warhol wig from Basquiat, too.

If you're gonna use Labyrinth Bowie, you best recognize this Bowie, too.

Bowie & Lennon

Bowie is wearing the hell out of that hat.

I guess she could've just called it Bowie Through the Years or something, but the hairstyle thing does give it a funny hook. I'd say Labyrinth Bowie definitely merits inclusion, but I don't fault her for leaving out Basquiat's Warhol Bowie. That one didn't really become iconic, like the others.

Years ago I stumbled upon some bizarre TV documentary about David Bowie's teeth. It charted how his teeth got better and worse over the years, making a fairly persuasive case that he did his best work during periods when he kind of let his teeth get jacked up, and when his teeth were looking great he was kind of coasting or actively selling out. As I describe it, it sounds like something made by a crazy person, but Bowie is such a fascinating character that somebody actually made a watchable documentary that was just about his teeth.

(Oh! Here's a bit of it on Youtube. IIRC, there was roughly another 55 minutes of this stuff.)

Bowie & Lennon
Does ... does it say "Elvis" on Lennon's robe?
