Follow The Leader is a new webcomic by Jonas McCluggage about cannibal children making a living in a rundown city park. Jonas' previous work is the slice of life comic entitled "The Adventures of Jonas" and has been released in dead tree form.

Aw, man. This is great. (needless to say there's some gore. Only like 12 pages in, and it's not much so far, but there ya go)

The colors are just amazing. Overall the style is pretty messy, but each stroke is done with intention and it makes for a beautiful outcome.

I really liked the artists first comic as it sort of lands itself in what I call the "learning how to human" sub-genre of slice-o'-life. The new one (Follow The Leader) has an interesting fantasy twist and has kept me waiting for pages in the way that Girl Genius or Gunnerkrigg has for all these years.

My morning routine has already transgressed into ritual, if I add any more comics maybe it will get long enough to prevent my departure!

dead tree form

"Books," little one. We used to call those things "books" in the before-time, in the long-long-ago.

This is odd. The art is very nicely done, but the story (and especially the dialogue) feels like it was translated from another language or something; it has no sense of tone, and the characters are written like how a kid would imagine tough adults talking, e.g.

"Let's get something straight. I bury fellas like you. I'll grind your bones to make my bread [real subtle foreshadowing there]...This is the American Mafia."

I mean...is this supposed to be for children or something? Is it supposed to be funny, or did it get there by mistake?

"Good morning reverend, thank you for the nice sermon"

"It's okay if you didn't like it, Mrs. Kent"

Heh.

Also the "don't look at the park" thing is strongly reminiscent of "Welcome to Nightvale"

It's rare for a webcomic to really give me a sense of creepiness, but their one succeeds brilliantly. I'm looking forward to finding out why the town is so fearful that it just doesn't set that park on fire.

I dunno - I liked the style of talking. A nice noir-ish feeling.

This sucked me in right away, it's got a nice pacing, I think. I love the art, and I like the shading/shadowing the artist does with the lines.

And I bet I know what happened to the kidnapped brother! (or maybe I don't, we'll see I guess).
