Reworking a Taylor Swift hit as a meditation on the tropes of a major SF/F canon? I'm not sure I approve of this sort of thing.

I've never heard the original, but this parody pretty much stands up on its own. Approved.

Jon... no!

*cackling*

The ending is great.

Oh man the wailing and gnashing of teeth if GRRM did kill her off, can you imagine?

I always suspected she was a secret Targaryen.

Is this one of those things that's funny because it's 2 things?

I've never heard the original

That fact is actually a little more amazing than this video. For a while this winter I could effectively listen to it on repeat by hitting the scan button on my car radio whenever the song ended.

Say it! Say her name! ... Taylor Swift!

Not to go all "I don't even own a tv" on this, but it helps to have a steady diet of Minnesota Public Radio (even The Current hasn't exposed me to much Tay yet) and podcasts.

I like the original too much to watch this.

Also, pretty cheap joke, Auden. It's more than okay for a woman to make money and protect her right to monetize her own brand before others try to.

... actually it was just a cheap Prince Oberyn joke

HAH! That took me a second, too.

I don't get this comment. Can someone please explain?

Taylor Swift Trademarks 'This Sick Beat' and Other '1989' Phrases: People will now need to seek permission to use the phrase on aprons, "non-medicated toiletries" and other items

(I think this is what discopolo was referring to)

Spoilers for GoT - The character Prince Oberyn has a grudge against some other characters because they messily (in even more nasty circumstances than is usual in Westeros) killed his sister in the backstory. Later, in a duel with the flunky who did it he screams at him to "say her name!", referring to the sister his opponent murdered, and tries to provoke him to name who ordered it, thus exposing him publicly. Auden was playing with the dialog by mashing it up with the TaySwift copyright stuff, discopolo interpreted it as being a swipe at Taylor.

Humor via text is hard.

I hate to say it, but MPR has failed you.

SPOILER ALERT

It is kind of an open secret that some fans have worked out GRRM's internal logic and figured out that the endgame will be Dany and Jon married and sharing the Iron Throne. This vid is a huge nod to that. The amazing thing is that the actors and costumers and set people and everyone else necessary went to the trouble to make this. GRRM looks like he's having a blast and I guess he is. Ten years ago he was begging PayPal to unfreeze his account so he could pay his bills. I'm happy to see that's not a problem any more.

I really don't think that's Gurm's logic. That would be the standard fantasy trope, and he likes upending those.

GRRM has described the ending as "bittersweet"; presumably this means that Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow end up ruling over a version of Westeros that's half burned wasteland and half frozen, zombie-infested wasteland.

The thing is, that would be a significant improvement over what Westeros currently is, so, well, I'd be down with that.

honestly, my opinion of Westeros as a whole pretty much matches that of the craziest Targaryen rulers. Burn it. Burn it all. Westeros, more than anywhere else in all of science fiction and fantasy, is badly, badly in need of being burnt to the ground.

This is undoubtably a mistype, but he will now always be Gurm to me. ALL HAIL GURM!

Not a mistype, and can't claim credit for it. Someone else said it in a past thread about Thrones, it tickled me, and I stole it.
