I'm so happy to be able to share this with you all, because I had had no idea about this part of her career. It's Florence on Coke Time with Eddie Fisher from 1954, one of her first TV appearances. She was on to promote Fanny, her first leading role in a Broadway musical. So maybe she had just turned 20?

It amazes me a bit that there are people around who were born just after the nationalization of radio, and had childhoods where TV was just an experiment. I'll bet people in her age range have to pause for a second to think of just how much communications technology has changed since the 1930s.

And, confidentially, I think she looks much better with short hair!

If she had any sense, Florence Welch would recruit Florence Henderson to tour with Florence(s) and the Machine. If nothing else they could perform "Wessonality" as an encore.

My Greek professor was on a game show with Florence Henderson. It was the highlight of his life judging from the number of times I heard the story (and judging from the number of times I've told it it was the highlight of mine as well.)
