Greek Finance Minister and man of the moment Yanis Varoufakis has been photographed at his home in Athens for a piece in French magazine Paris Match.

The pictures are here, via Getty Images.
The French are bemused, as are the Greeks and the Portuguese. [In French, Greek and Portuguese]

Bonus: Yanis Varoufakis doing things, a Tumblr.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is interesting to me in a "what news media report when there's no actual news" sort of way, but it is all kind of superficial IMO and there's just not much there beyond the media pablum and human interest angles. Fine if this were part of a slightly broader Greece/euro/etc. post I'd think, but a bit thin to stand on its own, and it doesn't seem to be received very well, sorry. -- goodnewsfortheinsane

Can't remember if the How I became an erratic Marxist article has been posted before, but it's interesting and worth a read.

So are we meant to be amused that a high level government minister has what looks like a nice but not opulent house and drinks wine with his wife because of his political views? Is that the joke?

I looked at the photos and then looked again. I thought there might be a hidden object. Then I thought "what am I looking at?". Then I realized that this was some sort of terrible snark.

Am I missing something?
