I liked the song. I loved the video.

This was fantastic! Thanks for sharing. There were parts of the video where it seemed very Chad Vangaalen-esque and then, to my delight, I see that he was one of the animators! I'm not familiar with all of the other animators, but was the guy who did "Time to Pretend" involved here?

I don't recall dying being so trippy.
I certainly do recall all my trips being that trippy, though with a lot more colors. Very fun piece.

re: the song, to me not being familiar with dan deacon (who seems a bit like jim o'rourke?) i'm gonna go with neutral milk hotel/animal collective (baltimore connexion!) with an admixture of that akira song :P

Please get to know the second animator, Calgary's own Chad Van Gaalen, who is not only a brilliant visual artist but also a musician in his own right and a producer.

All of them are great! A number of them have been featured on the front page before.

Jake Fried, Chad Vangaalen, Dimitri Stankowicz, Colin White, Taras Hrabowsky, Anthony Schepperd, Masanobu Hiraoka, Caleb Wood, KOKOFreakbean

Has Deacon's recent NPR Tiny Desk Concert shown up on the blue yet? It's pretty special.

Love Dan Deacon ( I know I know, don't care) and this hit me in all the right animation and visual nostalgia pressure points.

Yay.

Amazing video. I'm not such a fan of all this electronica and dubstep and such that the kids like today, but Dan Deacon is right up my alleyway ever since I heard him on 99% Invisible/Snap Judgment.

Hadn't seen that he was on Tiny Desk - thanks for the link, neroli! Damn, Tiny Desk is really fantastic.

Btw, Dan Deacon has an absolutely incredible live show. I saw him at a music festival, it was a magical mix of great presence and weird audience participation.

Off The Air is amazing. Off The Air and Deacon previously worked together too on the U.S.A. half hour special. (not to mention that Deacon pieces show up in some of the normal episodes too.)

Bonus: An early experiement between Dan Deacon/Dave Hughes (the Off the Air guy)

I was having some serious pre-travel anxiety and that music just chilled me the fuck out. Thanks

humanfont, I know what you're talking about. I was working in Shanghai, feeling super jet-lagged and stressed at the end of an epic day at the office. I stepped out onto the busy night crowd on Nanjing road and thought to myself

No. I can't take this crowd tonight. It's too much.

So I put on my noise-cancelling earbuds and hit play on some this lovely piece from Dan Deacon (True Thrush).

It, too, chilled me right the fuck out.

I've seen Dan Deacon live a few times now. It's usually like the Tiny Desk concert.

I'm not sure I'd recommend seeing him at a large amphitheater, though. The coordinated group dance-offs are fun, but better with hundreds of people, rather than thousands.
