Time for Joy Division! Time for Joy Division! Time for Joy Division!

Teletubbies Joy Division Edit. Chris G. Brown has made a video mashup that may ruin, or redeem, your memories of the Teletubbies. The pairing was suggested in comments after Mark Holland tweeted this image, with the comment, "The Teletubbies are fucking terrifying in black and white." More background at Vanyaland.

That was amazing.

Eerie as hell, but amazing.

I always thought the afx Donkey Rhubarb video was basically referencing the Teletubbies.

This improved my opinion of both the Teletubbies and 'Atmosphere'.

Genius, and curiously less risible than the original - and by no means dissimilar - Atmosphere video (which I see is linked from the background article. Ah,well!).

The orginal video, feat. the Ian Curtis Jawa Dancers not only struck me as risible, but also as wholly unnecessary.

All you need is a damp, grey day in late fall, a heart full of teenage angst and a walk around a deserted industrial area while wearing your Walkman, on which you rewind and listen to Atmosphere over and over. You get to be a character in your own video.

There were a lot of bad videos of good music back then, though. If that's even the right tense.

"Atmosphere" is the obvious choice here (given the famous jawas on the beach video) but I feel like this would be even more terrifying (and/or ridiculous) with something with a little more sonic edge, like "She's Lost Control."

Spoek Mathambo has you covered. (previously)

I always get Joy Division and Pansy Division confused and thus am disappointed at every Joy Division thread.

Spoek Mathambo: wow. That was unexpectedly powerful. (Die Antwoord, there will be a written test afterwards.)

Spoek Mathambo: wow.

Super-wow, thanks ardgedee!

At least they left off the bit at the end where Tinky-Winky hangs himself.

Cool Papa Bell -- it's not a well-known fact, but "Po" is short for "Nyarlatpotep," so you may be on to something.

And bad videos of bad music, too.

Spoek Mathambo: wow.

Yes, he is amazingly good.

na ja, 'Po' ist etwas and'res auf Nord Deutsches Sprachgeschichte...

Not to derail, because I loved the Teletubbies/Joy Division video, but Spoek gave a really interesting talk at Webstock last year.

That still looks like it's from an unrealized Ingmar Bergman children's show.

The Atmosphere video in the post is amazing, but that Spoek Malham video is seriously good. Both are great finds.

The title of this post made me think of this song: The Wombats - Let's Dance To Joy Division, which made me happy, and now I want you to be happy.

I wish this would become a thing.
This just has to become a thing.

I apologize for continuing the derail, but ardgedee, that link led to maupuia's comment, and Spoek mentions kasimp3 which introduced me to the genre "kwaito", which...

Holy shit. I am freaking out about how much good music I am discovering RIGHT NOW.

I had NO IDEA

bigendian: "This just has to become a thing."

Alright, so I've allowed myself one hour of time (not counting rendering and uploading) to a (con)tribute with a little lackluster video of my own.
(And once again I'm sitting here asking myself what I'm doing with my life...)

Wondrous things is what. That was awesome.

The creepy baby sun was well played.

It also got me thinking that B&W Teletubbies would work with, oh, I dunno, Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead."
