Ive been digging this little film clip, from the year 1947, where this totally badass lady shows how to kick some SERIOUS attacker butt: Judo Jymnastics. Go girl!

Oh man, I love everything about this. The music, the knowing looks from spectators, the awesome shoes, the groin kicks...

I discovered Agent Carter through a friend last week. This is hitting my groove.

I remember Cagney and/or Lacey using one of those moves on a perp! :)

She is so nonchalant about tossing him around, this is great.

I also like that it is the guy who is wearing hotpants and the woman is more comfortably dressed.

This is terrific. The way she saunters about with the gun pointed into her back!

I like that the director is William Forest Crouch, which sounds kind of like a self defense move. "If an attacker is coming from behind you and to the right, employ the the william forest crouch and a wrist lock to immobilize....

I also like thewoman doing the extremely nonchalant arm workout in the background, especially when she stops to watch especially surprising moves. "Don't mind me, I'm just getting in some reps... wow, look at that throw!"

I really appreciate the head bashes at the end of several of the takedowns.

Did his shorts get put on 5 inches too high on his body and he just went with it because the director said to hurry up?

Is that why he's so intent on mugging that lady? Because he is having to endure an atomic wedgie because she won't give him time to pull his shorts down so they're not trying to split his butt in half and push his crown jewels up the ensuing crevice?

I love it that the music is what I'd expect to hear at a very polite and sedate tea dance.

I like the scenarios getting scarier as they go by. Someone grabbing from behind for a too-tight hug, to someone coming at you for an overhand stab to the heart. We need a narrative tying it all together; "Jane didn't mind Bob greeting her in a friendly way every time she went down the hall to get coffee . . . But soon, things took a turn for the worse. "

The clothes really are amazing - add a few tattoos and she could be walking around Austin today. But the guy is wearing a tank top, granny panties, and oddly precious gum-soled shoes! I guess he could be walking around here today, too.

Looks to me as if the crown jewels have been up the ensuing crevice since Take 1.

I love her nonchalance and her heels! And this reminds me of the little self-defense lesson in the middle of the 50's movie Girls Town (scene cued up, plus MST3K treatment,
here.)

Something about her movement makes me think she's a dancer.

Oh my god are skortveralls/culotthosen/oompaloompawear really trending in Austin?

I was going to say that this Today.com write-up on the video brings up good points that this is somewhat remarkable as a newsreel for the vigorous exercise and level of empowerment for women, when this is another workout for women of the era, but this other stock footage from the period shows some pretty strenuous workouts, and this photo of a women's self-defense Judo demonstration in Germany is from 1924 (found on the self-defense Wikipedia article).

I love that woman. I wonder if she has a granddaughter who's available.
