One person who met Ira Einhorn as a child is the singer Courtney Love. Courtney Love's dad was a member of the Grateful Dead's entourage named Hank Harrison, whom Einhorn originally approached in the hopes he could get the Dead to donate money to Earth Day. Occasionally, you still see Einhorn misidentified as Courtney Love's father in articles and books.

There has been some rediculous self-parodying stunts for Earth Day in the past but I think it will be hard to top whenever dreamed up the idea that to urge government action on climate change Bill Nye and Obama should take an Earth Day flight on Air Force One

That article about Einhorn is pretty weird. Because it's in a Jewish-specific publication, it makes a big deal out of the utterly irrelevant fact that this horrible wife-murdering monster was Jewish. It could easily be reprinted without alteration on a neonazi website.

Maybe he's only Jewish on his father's side.

I thought it was a neonazi website, from the way it read. Hence, I flagged and moved on.

Timely, in that I was just having my annual rehash of this eye-roller with my CPAC-attending lady teammate/friend from my curling club, and the best counterpoint to the now-standardized nonsense about Einhorn is summed up neatly by this piece in Philadelphia Magazine.

Einhorn was the "co-founder" of Earth Day in the same way that Luke Sissyfag was co-founder of Clinton-era gar rights activism (in other words, not at all). Sometimes, you get douchebags in your movements who claim to have been instrumental in those movements instead of just annoyances, but just because they say it's so doesn't mean it is. This, of course, doesn't stop the right wing brigade from believing they have found the perfect fly in the ointment of the environmental movement and shrilling it all over the place, but just because they say it's so doesn't mean it is.

Meanwhile, everyone seems to forget poor John McConnell.

Sigh.

Personally, I believe we are more in need of an Unhappy Earth Day.
