Loved it. He killed it. (Might have liked a little less echo, but that is me)

I am imagining a young Van Morrison devouring these records as he tries to develop his style. an obvious influence.

I honestly can't decide if I like this or not, but wow that is a bad video. Like, comically bad.
Going to listen again now. Carry on.

I'm still trying to decide, myself. It's an awesome, unique performance, to be sure. I'm just not sure it works that well with a song like Summertime. But, hey. No biggie.

Stuart Maconie had with a segment on BBC Radio 6 this weekend called Five Tracks I'd Never Have Heard Without WFMU, and one of them was an absolutely delirious, manic live performance of this. The show (Stuart Maconie's Freakier Zone) isn't available as a podcast but it should be on iPlayer.

How can you people not know the Fat Boy? Both Summertime and Sitting in the Park are classic 60's R&B tracks.
Kids, lawn, remove yourselves, etc.

Here he is, Billy Stewart! It's a low quality version of a live TV performance, but better than nothing. (I now realize it's the same Summertime video as linked by PeterMcDermott.)

Nice. Wish the recording quality was better.
I saw Leontyne Price when she appeared at my school in the late seventies. It was a small crowd, mostly older local folks. At the end of her show she asked for requests and I practically leaped to my feet crying "Summertime!"
Ms. Price fixed me with a look and a broad smile, clearly pleased to see an enthusiastic young fan, and said "oh my, it's been a while." Then, after a short conference with her accompanist about adjusting the key down, she began. Her voice occupied the song, delivering waves of deliriously luscious summer heat, leaving me covered in goose flesh and weeping with joy. For me, no version of the song has ever approached the one I heard that night.
