Aha! Looking at the YouTube channel it appears to be a "viral" marketing campaign by Suntory, creators of CC Lemon (the soda pop they drink at the end).

There is no way that could have been a real log.

It was a composited shot. The behind the scenes has a brief bit of them filming the hands slapping a greenscreen.

Oh, Atami. I will always remember you for the time I woke up at your train station after accidentally falling asleep on the Shonan Line coming home from an all-nighter in Tokyo. Also, sex museum!

I'm pretty sure I've watched this anime before although i vaguely remember an otaku MC that was inexplicably irresistable to the entire female student body of the high school.

The log thing is a popular ninja lore/gag that is often written into anime and manga.

Too bad it wasn't a viral marketing campaign for Steadicam...

But still, this is the best non-sequitur Japanese soft drink ad.

That was good, thoroughly enjoyed it, do not care that it was an ad.

Yeah, well you wouldn't be so impressed if you saw their grades in Pre-Cal. C- on a simple Trig quiz, Kimiko? Oh, you know all about jumping off 4-story buildings, but you can't spend half an hour studying your sines and cosines?

"I felt bad about doing tricks in front of the shrine, so I thought maybe I'd stop and bow after the first flip."

That was a nice touch. Actually if you're into shrines and temples and so on (and not everyone is in Japan) it is good manners to bow when passing in front of a shrine. If you're in a Buddhist temple it is good manners if passing in front of the central figure of worship (usually a statue of something or other).

Agreed. I know I've seen that "stop dead in the middle of a high speed chase to do something unrelated" bit multiple times before, but I'm having trouble thinking of them. The only one that comes to mind immediately is Ferris Bueller going back to talk to the girls in bikinis on his way to his house.

That was impressive. The jump onto the van, even though I have an idea of how it was done, I still don't entriely get the specifics. Did they just throw a camera down for the greenscreen footage?

And I literally said: "aww!" at the bow to the shrine. For some reason it makes me happy that that was an actual emotional choice instead of a before-hand scripted move.

But I do feel ever so slightly cheated that the stunts were done by the not-entirely photogenic girl with the fantastic moves instead of the kickass kickboxing chick.
